http://www.laborradio.org/node/8318

Workers, union leaders and activists are going to be very busy in the Motor City over the next few days hatching plans to give union power an overhaul. Doug Cunningham explains.

By Doug Cunningham

Hundreds of workers and labor activists are gathering in Detroit this weekend for the Labor Notes conference on “Rebuilding
Labor’s Power. It’s a chance for workers around the country and some from around the world – to come together to share ideas, energy and strategies for standing up for workers in a variety of ways. Saturday’s keynote speaker at this year’s Labor Notes conference is Rose Ann Demoro, who heads the California Nurses Association. Seminars and workshops will include sessions and presentations on organizing, health care and health care workers, union democracy, labor against the war, auto workers, black workers’ issues, immigrants, labor media, bargaining tactics, building international solidarity, labor and the 2008 election and much more. The conference is sponsored and hosted by Detroit’s Labor Notes magazine.
