Impressed me as something that ought to be seen by supporters
of both candidates.

As an Obama supporter, it speaks to me of the authentic dignity of
Obama's campaign. However I can't imagine that supporters of Hillary
would not also appreciate it, since she speaks so well of her and
affirms her own commitment to being a Democrat.

Reminds me also that Obama has talked about healing this nation
and changing the tone of politics.

1. Good. let it rest. but regarding your commentay--it was many O. fans who
were supporting her--saying just yesterday--many ugly threads that she should not have to resign--its all Hillary's fault!!

so you need to clean your own house here on DU

2. I think it's a shame she needed to resign but respect her position on it.
Hopefully she will continue to be a voice of sanity in these times.

6. she did good work--but obviously being in the campaign tainted her--it
was just not the word monster. there were several sentences.

"so you need to clean your own house here on DU"

You didn't really need to add this, it just comes across as insulting.
Everybody needs to clean up their own house here.

19. Well, certainly in other campaigns she wouldn't have to resign.
It's good to see Obama requiring a higher standard, here.

3. The REAL problem here is that this primary season has gone on WAY too long!
People in both camps are just plain exhausted out of their freaking minds. Stress and exhaustion can monkey with your head and make you do strange things, IMHO.

21. I don't know that it's the duration, as much as the desperation ...
... that has required one campaign to public initiate a "kitchen sink" negative attack strategy. As Ms. Power alludes to, her political inexperience got the best of her, and she reacted emotionally to what she saw as over-the-line tactics.

4. Well, I think she just
got caught up in the heat of the moment. She was mature to apologize. I fail to connect the dot regarding dignity with Obama's campaign...for me, it shows he is following traditional campaign rhetoric... Nothing different than any other campaign.

too emotional, especially if she hasn't been getting enough rest with the campaign. Obviously, she has a lot of talent and I would have thought a short suspension or something, along with the public apology, would have been sufficient. I'm sure that Senator Clinton, of all people, would not be happy to see the career of a talented young woman be damaged over an impulsive remark. But this is a reminder to all, never, never say anything around a reporter, off the record or otherwise, that you don't want to ever see in print.

8. Hmmm.
A. She shouldn't have apologized and resigned. Hillary has become a monster. And Mrs. Power is 20x more bright on her worst day than HRC ever was on her best days. But like they say, a gaffe in politics is when you accidentally say something that is true.

B. Samantha will be back. Once Obama is in the white house, he'll give her a cabinet position. Which makes sense. The woman is a foreign policy genius.

Don't we all make mistakes? Haven't we all said things in the heat of the moment that we regret having said?

I tip my hat to this young lady.

P.S. It's not like a few MILLION repugs haven't said the same thing about Hillary. This is such a trumped up farce.

17. Exactly, Hulk, you cut to the chase. . .
. . . an overblown, trumped-up farce because an apology such as this from a self-effacing, gracious Samantha was not enough. . .Hillary camp pushed it to their vindictive edge by demanding her being fired.

Did you notice Samantha reaffirmed her loyalty to whomever becomes the Democratic nominee because she said something like . . .after all, we are all Democrats in the end. MEANWHILE, Hillary herself has said, not once, not twice, but THREE times in one week that McCain is more fit than Obama to be President. . .IMHO, Samantha, Senator Obama, and his campaign are the kind of fair-minded,loyal Democrats I want in the White House.

23. Well said, Lena.
Vastly overblown, but the difficulty is that Obama wants a clean campaign, and Samantha's outburst was unfortunately contrary to that theme.

but it's good that she apologized. Too bad Hillary doesn't have the class to apologize for all the smears Obama has taken from her and her campaign.

13. She said it best,
when she said she's new to politics - she's a scholar. This isn't her baliwick and simply spoke at the wrong moment. I can certainly relate - oh, the times I should have kept the words inside my mouth.

our democratic process one day Power is lighting rod the next she is hailed as someone who helping heal the country. We put to much emphasis on sound bites and pictures and we don't really get to know someone whether it's a candidate or someone else seen on TV talking. That is part of the reason I support Hillary on TV at times she comes across not friendly but if you look at more than just TV pictures and sound bites there is more there. Is Power a wonderful person maybe I don't know but we try and judge her through two sound bites common on. We can't but we do make a lot of decisions from TV sound bites and sometimes that is not good part of selling the Iraq war was through TV sound bites.

It's too bad she made a neophyte's mistake. She was right to resign, as she herself said, but I hope she doesn't let this get her down. She's a genuinely talented person and she'll be an asset to the Democratic party in the future.
