Unseen Al Gore - Part 2 or watch the entire video, at a bit higher resolution, at Google Video - Unseen Al Gore.

"Unseen Al Gore" is an intimate look at Al Gore and his family during the former Vice President's 2000 Presidential campaign. It is so warm and candid that, had it been shown by the Gore campaign, he would have won with enough of a landslide the that the GOP could not have stolen the election from him, from us.

The best part of "Unseen Gore" for me is that he talks about having become terribly disillusioned about politics as a young man - the most disillusioned person you could imagine - and, yet, through covering politics as a journalist he came to respect the system again and go on to serve in the Senate and White House.

So... It could happen again. The disillusioned Gore could, through his work with citizens on the climate crisis become willing to go back to the White House. Whether or not that happens depends on us, I believe. Can we push the Congress to take bold steps starting in January -- bold steps that would indicate to Al that his time in the White House could be spent working with Congressmembers who care because WE have made them care, because WE have made them understand that they must act now.

We have to demonstrate to him that we know what matters and that we will keep Congress's feet to the fire!

On edit: And check out how the Blue Tiger Democrats are helping the planet. One of their civic engagement projects is the Michigan Utilities Impact Education Program. It was launched in the spring of 2006 with the goal of helping lower income families to use energy more efficiently and lower their utility bills. The Blue Tigers believe that by helping people solve day-to-day problems we can connect the Democratic Party to the voters. At the same time, they are reducing costs for the families, they are reducing carbon emissions! Win for the families with lower bills. Win for the Democratic Party. Win for the planet. :applause:

1. Shows the human side...
which, unfortunately, never got coverage.

Note: I don't know where, but there's a high-res version out there and it's much more pleasing and impressive (funny how the quality of a video can reflect either poorly or less positively on the subject, but it seems it can have that effect).

2. a version of this was shown at the 2000 convention...
In fact, we were just speaking about this at lunch today. I was saying how it seemed the Spike Jonze film that was played at the '00 convention just didn't get much media attention for some reason. I specifically remember the self-portrait of Tipper pregnant, and the discussion over which movie to see when they were sitting around the kitchen table.

This may be a different edit of that convention film, but I remember being blown away by it and thought "how can anyone not like Al Gore after seeing this?" I was always a big fan of his, but really hoped the film would change some minds.

And it might have...He got more votes than Bush despite the media hating his guts.

I thought Spike did a great job 6 years ago, and seeing it again now, I remember why I was so impressed with it.
