1. I sat in front of the tube watching the Daily Show waiting for something nasty and biting.
Stewart started off taking shots at Obama and Wright and the speech and the crowd and the venue. He then started with the feigned "white fright" when Obama mentioned angry black people (which was funny); and then he took comfort in hearing that white people were angry, too. He let the tape roll for a while, and finished with the quote you gave.

Finally. As always. Someone on the television got it. It wasn't about anything else. It was about dealing with a hard topic as if were had actually graduated from kindergarten. This is exactly why I support Obama.

Thank you, Jon.

2. I actually became a little emotional when Jon finished that segment
and then he did the skit with the other dude and I was cracking up.

3. Obama is the first politician since JFK to dare
to ask Americans to get off our asses and make something ourselves.

For all the republican talk of accountability, their solution is to buy more ipods and get into more household debt. That isn't accountability. That's narcissism. Evidently millions of us do have an inherent sense that we need to be doing more for our country.

5. You make it sound as if you thought Jon would use that as fodder
I figured out a long time ago that Jon Stewart is a patriot first and a comedian second. When the Dems do something worthy of ridicule, he's right there but when the Dems do something right, or, as in this case, Senator Obama does something historic and stirring, well, I would have had no doubt about what side Jon would come down on. I trust Jon completely to be on the side of the correct thing. I'm glad he isn't just a Democratic mouthpiece but boy, am I glad he's on our side (that side being the good citizen side).

6. Nicely stated. Stewart is a bellwether, and see's directly through the phoniness
He's 30 minutes of truth in a world of 24/7 bullshit.

7. Well, it was actually when he called out Tucker Carlson and that other guy
on the show whose name I can't remember but has since been canceled. They thought they brought a comedian on but he called them on their shit in no uncertain terms. They were flummoxed and my eyes were opened. I always liked Jon Stewart's brand of humor but until that day, I didn't realize he subsumed his comedy to a higher good. So, now, when he berates "our" side, generally I see his point and that he does have a point, rather than just trying to score points. He's a good egg.

4. That's a powerful line he delivered
At 11 o'clock on a Tuesday a prominent political (leader) talked to the American people about race as if they were adults.

When was the last time a prominent political leader talked to Americans about anything like they were adults? It's a wondertul feeling to be treated like that.
