I suggested it to Gore's campaign in 2000. It's a powerful song that would be well received in more rural states given it's country music. Most importantly, it packs a powerful message and tells a powerful story, a story that fits Edwards' message well.

Take a look and leave a thoughtful comment!

1. Great song, good video. Martina has a powerful voice.
But I just don't see it as a campaign theme song. The message isn't obvious enough to catch on with the masses. Some might even be confused. "Love's the only house? What house? The White House?" Some people might not think things through.

4. Right, it would be one for rallies rather than conventions and major media events...
though I think the media (after being nudged by the campaign) would start examining the message behind it since it fits so well with his message.

I posted a more catchy song in another comment on this thread. If I think of it tomorrow, I might post another thread with the YouTube video...if there is one.

Cheers.

2. I always thought this song would make a good campaign song.
It's upbeat, sort of hearkens to "Morning Again in America," which I feel we need to make the case for an optimistic new start in America, while acknowledging that our strength is the common, everyday worker and citizen.

I think The Call's song does so beautifully:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7m-qSNHuTBE

Here's to the babies in a brand new world
Here's to the beauty of the stars
Here's to the travellers on the open road
Here's to the dreamers in the bars

Here's to the teachers in the crowded rooms
Here's to the workers in the fields
Here's to the preachers of the sacred words
Here's to the drivers at the wheel

Here's to you my little loves with blessings from above
Now let the day begin
Here's to you my little loves with blessings from above
Now let the day begin, let the day begin

Here's to the winners of the human race
Here's to the losers in the game
Here's to the soldiers of the bitter war
Here's to the wall that bears their names

Here's to you my little loves with blessings from above
Now let the day begin
Here's to you my little loves with blessings from above
Let the day begin, let the day begin, let the day start

Here's to the doctors and their healing work
Here's to the loved ones in their care
Here's to the strangers on the streets tonight
Here's to the lonely everywhere

Here's to the wisdom from the mouths of babes
Here's to the lions in the cage
Here's to the struggles of the silent war
Here's to the closing of the age.

Here's to you my little loves with blessings from above
Now let the day begin
Here's to you my little loves with blessings from above
Let the day begin

Here's to you my little loves with blessings from above
Let the day begin
Here's to you my little loves with blessings from above
Now let the day begin, let the day begin, let the day start

3. Here's another "Forty Hour Week" by Alabama...
Hopefully these lyrics off the net are right. It's a very catchy song, one the public would easily catch the message of:

There are people in this country who work hard every day.
Not for fame or fortune do they strive.
But the fruits of their labor are worth more than their pay.
And it's time a few of them were recognized.

Hello Detroit auto workers, let me thank you for your time.
You work a forty hour week for a livin', just to send it on down the line.
Hello Pittsburgh steel mill workers, let me thank you for your time.
You work a forty hour week for a livin', just to send it on down the line.

This is for the one who swings the hammer, driving home the nail.
Or the one behind the counter, ringing up the sale.
Or the one who fights the fires, the one who brings the mail.
For everyone who works behind the scenes.

You can see them every morning in the factories and the fields.
In the city streets and the quiet country towns.
Working together like spokes inside a wheel.
They keep this country turning around.

Hello Kansas wheat field farmer, let me thank you for your time.
You work a forty hour week for a livin', just to send it on down the line.
Hello West Virginia coal miner, let me thank you for your time.
You work a forty hour week for a livin', just to send it on down the line.

This one is for the one who drives the big rig, up and down the road.
Or the one out in the warehouse, bringing in the load.
Or the waitress, the mechanic, the policeman on patrol.
For everyone who works behind the scenes.
With a spirit you can't replace with no machine.

Hello America - let me thank you for your time!
