Look.

I've supported Barack Obama for a while now, but, unlike many here on the site, I wasn't so sure that the math was going to be enough to get him across the finish line. It was possible, I thought, that he could slip up and say something really foolish (which, of course, would be out of character) and fall hard. This was, it seems, the Clinton campaign's only hope. With the tide turning against her, she would need a miraculous flub to overcome the Big O's "Big Mo."

And this week did provide Americans with the spectacle of an embarrassing, campaign ending gaffe lie.

When you tell the American public you faced gunfire, and it turns out all you really faced was a little girl with flowers -- well, that's as bad as it gets When you dramatically say you made a journey that was too dangerous for the president, only to have it revealed that he made the same trip two months earlier -- and that your teenaged daughter was by your side -- that only makes it worse.



If they wanted to, the networks could juxtapose video of Sen. Clinton's dramatic recitation of the battle . The question is: Will they want to?

Lissa Muscatine, who served as Hilary Clinton’s chief speechwriter in 1996 and accompanied her on the Bosnia trip, feels that I have failed to provide a full picture of what took place. She gave me her “vivid recollections” of the arrival in Tuzla, which I quote below:

I was on the plane with then First Lady Hillary Clinton for the trip from Germany into Bosnia in 1996. We were put on a C17– a plane capable of steep ascents and descents — precisely because we were flying into what was considered a combat zone. We were issued flak jackets for the final leg because of possible sniper fire near Tuzla. As an additional precaution, the First Lady and Chelsea were moved to the armored cockpit for the descent into Tuzla. We were told that a welcoming ceremony on the tarmac might be canceled because of sniper fire in the hills surrounding the air strip. From Tuzla, Hillary flew to two outposts in Bosnia with gunships escorting her helicopter.

It has been reported she visited 3 bases, not one. Perhaps we could check to see which bases, and which base this video comes from. The schedule indicates Tuzla was where a greeting with an “8yr old child” would take place.

The schedule shows Mrs. Clinton was accompanied by Togo West.

This seems more like a defense of hillary's story, from CBS.

Because she spun it as, its just standard military common sense preparedness and thats what really happened.

And Hillary pointed out the reporter is taking the word of a comedian that tells jokes over the hers.

And she says what actually happened on the plane is true. As far as I know.

I agree she exaggerated and told a lie. But lets see the actual damned lie, and not the paid for washed misspoken distraction SinBad cover.

Look, she said the Bosnia trip was too dangerous for Bill to go on, and that there was sniper fire, and she had to duck and run to a car. She said there was no greeting at the airport.

Sinbad later said her story was b.s., because he and Sheryl Crow went with Hillary on this trip and it was nothing like that.

This reporter then asked Hillary if she was still sticking to her story even after Sinbad had said she was exaggerating. She rudely called Sinbad simply a comedian and stuck to her story.

Yesterday this video surfaced and it supports Sinbads claim that she was lying about the dangers she faced.

Is that clear enough?

In fact the acting President greeted her on the Tarmac. That is a ceremony by any definition of the word.

Clinton said her arrival was so dangerous that she had to rush to waiting vehicles.

In fact no such thing was true. She leisurely deplaned and took plenty of time for the ceremonial greeting.

Her statement, and your defense of same, are complete lies.

...I never expected this of Hillary. Usually she's so much better at lying, but if she's going to get caught this easily then she must not be as good at it as I thought. If she can't hide her lies better than this, then as a politician she just isn't worth her salt. This is the kind of experience Obama is lacking as well. I guess it'll have to be third choice this time. Neither of them can lie worth a damn I guess.

Reasonable people will recognize that she was speaking about a particular event which may or may not be easy to retrieve. To suggest that she would lie about such an occurrence seems ridiculous to me.
