The music video has scenes from the movie Johnny Got His Gun.

Some lines from the movie clips featured that really struck me.

"For democracy, any father would give his only begotton son."

"He's the product of your profession, not mine." (You'll understand when you see the video)

"If I had arms, I could kill myself; if I had legs, I could run away; If I had a voice, I could talk and be some kind of company for myself. Why won't they get it over with and kill me?"

The song lyrics:

I cant remember anything
Cant tell if this is true or dream
Deep down inside I feel to scream
This terrible silence stops me

Now that the war is through with me
I'm waking up I can not see
That there is not much left of me
Nothing is real but pain now

Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please god,wake me

Back in the womb its much too real
In pumps life that I must feel
But cant look forward to reveal
Look to the time when I'll live

Fed through the tube that sticks in me
Just like a wartime novelty
Tied to machines that make me be
Cut this life off from me

Hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please god,wake me
Now the world is gone Im just one
Oh god, help me hold my breath as I wish for death
Oh please God help me

Darkness imprisoning me
All that I see
Absolute horror
I cannot live
I cannot die
Trapped in myself
Body my holding cell

Landmine has taken my sight
Taken my speech
Taken my hearing
Taken my arms
Taken my legs
Taken my soul
Left me with life in hell

1. And if Trumbo had foregone producing that film. . .
he may have finished Night of the Aurochs, a potentially far more worthy endeavor (as he said himself).

Not to detract from either Johnny the film or the video, just trying to stir interest in another of Dalton Trumbo's extraordinary novels, the unfinished but exceptionally powerful Night of the Aurochs -- war and unfathomable hatred as seen through the eyes of the aggressor, as opposed to Johnny's victim's view.

2. Back when Metallica was the greatest rock band on earth
Before they became a bunch of fan-loathing clowns making shitty music ("St. Anger", anyone?). I'll bet the punchline on that one is that Napster users didn't want to download that POS.

One of the greatest music videos ever. And someday, I really should see "Johnny Got His Gun".

3. woah, that's trippy
I was just singing this song to myself on the way home from work, less than an hour ago.

Yep, very good statement on the absurdity of war.
