3. I really don't get it

At the risk of sounding like a self righteous jerk, I just don't get how informed, rational people can vote GOP anymore (ever since the authoritarians took over the party in the 80s).

First off, as Cenk says regulations are fairly cheap. And they prevent having to spent hundreds of billions on bailouts. At the same time McCain is perfectly OK with tax cuts for the rich and the war in Iraq, which will cost our economy (from 2000-2018) at least 10 trillion (7 trillion for tax cuts, 3 trillion for the war). Everything McCain says is a lie. It is just as big of a lie as people saying 'McCain supports our troops' then neglecting to know that McCain helped filibuster attempts to cut troop deployment times to 12 months, increase R&R, and give them better education benefits when they got home in the 21st century GI bill. Or when the GOP opposes the EFCA by saying 'they support the right to a union vote' while neglecting to mention that the EFCA merely offers an alternative to a union vote, which can be corrupted by corporate lawyers.

And I know its arrogant, but this makes no sense for an informed person to fall for this stuff. I realize the GOP used to stand for good things (fiscal responsibility, strong national defense, individual liberties, balance between powers (some unions vs corporations for example)) but they don't stand for any of that now. They are the exact opposite of everything they once stood for (they've ruined the economy and our national security, they are oppressive social authoritarians and want to remove many protections that help the poor and weak defend themselves like trial law or unions) and its almost like they are certain that the average voter is too apathetic and uninformed to call them on their bullshit.

People have contradictions. They can seem intelligent, but.....Example: my father-in-law. An engineering degree from M.I.T. A speed reader. Literate. Reads plenty.

But he watches Fake News Channel for his information. Lives in a little Neocon echo chamber in the lovely (ugh) Dallas suburbs. (No offense to the non-asshole people in Dallas). Then he can't possibly miss Wheel of Fortune. Just plain weird. Used to watch 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?' (OH the humanity). AND when it comes to social skills? Forget about it. And then there's the just-barely-under-control racism. And the phony religion. Ehhh....enough.

Is that rational and well-informed? Me no think so.

Don't get me wrong, I still love the guy, nobody's beyond redemption in my book. My point is that people can be like idiot savants. Have knowledge in some areas, be complete utter morons at other things.

People aren't getting balanced educations in this country.

McCain disgusts me. He let Bu$h pee all over him in 2000, then hugged him. He is craven. He would crawl on his belly through the slime to be POTUS. I'm done with him, and I'll do everything I can to keep this asshole out of the White House.

I sure hope Obama will exceed my expectations and become a really great President. We sure need it.

ihavenobias, you're a saint to keep posting these. I wonder if it's just me, or is there perhaps a way to get more volume on these? I crank up the volume all the way here and it's still hard to hear.
