5. Seems like they do some good work!

Boombim, a highly confident 8 year old female elephant, painted her beautiful floral art in Chiang Mai, Thailand. According to her trainer, Ngiam, this confidence turns to stubbornness at times. However, she is also very expressive in her happiness and makes loud noises to show her enjoyment. Being such an expressive elephant, she was meant to be artist and after 2 years she is painting beautiful, realistic pictures. Painting is very relaxing for Boombim. She gets a bath before practicing, then indulges in bananas and sugarcane after.

Somjai, a 14 year old male elephant, painted his beautiful floral art in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Somjai is a gentle giant and is friendly and social with all his buddies. He started painting at age 10 and was a natural and quickly learned to paint flowers. He loves his elephant friends so much that it came as no surprise when he quickly used his skills to paint realistic pictures of fellow elephants. Somjai's talent is as big as his heart.

Jaab, a vivacious 8 year old male elephant, painted his beautiful floral art in Chiang Mai, Thailand. He loves to play with his elephant friends and seems to like everybody. This agreeable nature helped Jaab when he started learning to paint five years ago. Of course, the rewards of corn (his favorite food) also was a great motivator. With his art teacher, Khun Tossapol Petcharattanakool, and caretaker, Mr. Phad Singbut, Jaab is now creating realistic and abstract paintings. His style keeps progressing and he is one of the special elephants who really enjoys expressing himself through art vs. those who choose to eat their wooden paint brushes.

When Thailand cut back on logging, at least 3,000 domesticated elephants were no longer needed for hauling. These wonderful creatures are facing unprecedented survival challenges. Boombin's amazing art is being sold to help save the demising number of Asian elephants and protect them from people using them for illegal logging or begging for handouts on city streets. Proceeds are used to keep their native habitats as well as for caretaker education, veterinarian care, and food for domesticated elephants.

Positive behavioral training techniques and non-toxic paints are used. Your painting has an official stamp and comes with Boombin's picture and bio. Thank you for helping and saving these amazing crea

$475. I'm told that this particular elephant-artist, (Jaami or Jaabi....I haven't received the biography yet, it's coming with the painting) is supposed to be quite the dancer too. Whenever someone has music on, his whole body starts to sway in time.

10. Elephant art home page - you can buy these!
http://www.elephantart.com/catalog/pressroom.php

Amazing, they have taught multiple elephants around the world how to paint, and several are now doing elephant figures.

13. Elephants are very smart. If they didn't want to paint, I doubt if they would...
The elephant seems to using the paint brush as an instrument of self-expression.

If the elephants painting can help make humans understand that other species are intelligent and deserving of respect, then I'm all for it.

The Asian Elephant Art & Conservation Project (AEACP) uses the money from the paintings to save the diminishing number of Asian elephants left on our planet through its work with domesticated elephants. The AEACP raises funds through donations and the sale of artwork created by elephants in order to fulfill its mission.

Read about the AEACP here: http://www.elephantart.com/catalog/mission.php

14. Humbles the human race as the so very superior species, doesn't it?
I think animals are capable of much more than we think they are.

My grandparents once had a dog, a shepherd to protect their farm, for many years. When he was older they let him roam freely so he did, frequently. Travelled to neighboring villages and back. ( supposedly had a girlfriend there )
But one day, he was hit by a car on the road and was badly injured. Yet, he made it home. My grandparents were working outdoors at different places and the dog visited them both which was very unusual for him to do at this time of day. My grandfather later said the dog didn't want to be touched or helped but the dog looked him in the eyes. It was as if he wanted to say "goodbye", my grandfather told.

The dog visited my grandma like that, too.

Then he left and was later found dead in one of his favorite places around the farm.

Call me nuts but I am convinced this dog knew he was going to die. There are so many beautiful and incredible creatures on this planet. And just because we are the only ones who can speak and communicate like we do doesn't mean there isn't much more going in the minds of these animals than just "eating and sleeping".

And this elephant video proves it, too, I think.

She cried when her handlers signed to her that her kitten was killed by a car outside.

17. After looking at more of their art
it's very profound to now KNOW that these beautiful creatures, and many if not all others, view the world in the same way we do. The shapes and colors are fantastic. I think that's something akin to finding alien life on Mars. We have intelligent life right here on earth! Stop killing our friends! Elephants, whales, dolphins, seals, on and on! Stop it!
