4. What a welcome surprise!
I honestly kind of believed all of this feminist propaganda, that by not voting for Hillary Clinton, I wouldn't be furthering women's rights. However, it seems like Barack Obama might do more for women's rights than Hillary Clinton would! :) :o

6. Hillary Is Only For Rich Women
...and she has proved this over and over with the work she has not done in the senate. Low income women have been speaking literally under her office window in NY for years trying to get her to listen to their plight. She has turned a deaf ear around their being plunged into permanent poverty, thanks to Welfare DEformed that she ardently supports. If she cares this little for low income women who are exploited and desperately poor, she cares about as little for middle income women as well. Because the law passed in 1996 says that, the *only* worthwhile work women do is corporate work, parenting and care of family is officially codified into law as "doing nothing."

This is why I cannot support Hillary Clinton, because I have watched my sisters in NY literally beg her to listen and she refused. They even threw waffles at her door one time in frustration because she "waffled" so much with any meaningful legislation around more support and schooling for low income women. 70% of whom used welfare to go to school before 1996. God forbid if a woman actually become independent and able to support herself and her family with an education. As Ms Clinton well knows, Welfare DEformed actually forbids schooling even for women to get a GED in most states and it does not care if there is no childcare for the kids or even if the pay is enough to support a family.

7. I had no idea about this
I can't believe this! If this information got out about Hillary not supporting women, she would lose her number 1 ardent base - middle-aged women over 40.

15. Thus She Lost Me
...an advocate for low income people who struggle every day to just make enough to feed their kids or eat themselves and a woman over 50 myself. Thanks to the likes of her and her husband who officially and enthusiastically severed our safety net in 1996 and have little regrets about it. As I watch the middle class sink into what they and their Republican friends took away, stunned at the truth about how the poor have been maligned and blamed for the true welfare ~ corporate welfare, I am angry at the waste and fraud I see. I cannot tell you how many people in my area who have lost their jobs, their homes, their security tell me, "I had no idea it was so bad for the poor until I became low income myself!"

Thus I cannot hardly even listen to this woman because I see every day what she supports in the desperate faces of low income families, many who had a home and made a living but no longer have it. She may speak a few pretty words, but it has always been about blaming low income women for the plight in this country when in reality since the 1980s the true "welfare queen" has been the Ken Lays, Rupert Murdocks and George Bushes of the world who took thousands of times more of our tax dollars than the measely 4% that WAS the social service budget in 1996 and is now less than 2% of our national budget. The true tax eaters are not the welfare moms who more often than not went to school and became educated, able to support her kids, that Welfare DEformed now forbids. And Hillary Clinton can pretend she does not see all she wants, but she knows it, this is the worse part. She knows it!

10. Who Worked On The South side Of Chicago
Edited on Mon Mar-31-08 02:06 PM by mntleo2
...and knows the scene far better than Clinton could ever know. Since the poor are often the "canary in the mine" for the rest of this society, I am for anyone who "gets it" when it comes to the plight of the poor. I do not care about gender, race or creed and I am over 50 and a woman. I was just saying what I know. As an advocate for low income women for many years I am connected with those women in NY whom I deeply admire for their tenacity. I am also knowledgeable about women and poverty. I can tell you a man who chose to work on the South side of Chicago actually cares about the poor. He could have worked in high powered law offices but instead chose to be a grassroots organizer instead.

Having known a few here in Seattle like Obama, most notably a psychiatrist who chooses to work with the homeless mentally ill, a few lawyers who stand up for low income women and the homeless, a math doctorate who runs a homeless newspaper, and some legislators who are also making poverty their main work, I can tell you I know people like Barak Obama. They are often brilliant, they have deep insight and they are people who have chosen to dedicate their lives to social justice. Few of them become politicians and even fewer still are not almost immediately corrupted once in office and almost all of them forget their roots, except the people I have mentioned.

Barak Obama appears to have kept most of his integrity intact in spite of the buzz saw of politics ~ which in itself is a phenomena. What I mean about "corruption" is that many politicians and so-called "successful" people become enamored with the money and power and enmeshed in the process, they forget why they are there. None of them come out of it unscathed ~ or at least few of them do. I do not think Barak Obama forgets why he is there. and while he is most likely corrupted by the desire for power and money, he is still calling attention and shows deep insight with issues few other politicians have, such as the plight of the low income worker. He knows because he has lived, worked, defended and been neighbors with the people of whom he speaks.

One cannot expect someone like Hillary Clinton to understand such things, born into a rich family, reared in private schools, never having gone hungry one day in her life. I am not surprised at her inability to "hear" my friends who stand below her window, she would BE a phenomena if she did hear them and be moved by them. Which to me is why people like John Edwards and Barak Obama who do not forget where they came from are phenomenas and Hillary Clinton is not.

My 2 cents

14. Thank you for the thoughtful reply ...
I don't fully grasp the depth of where you are coming from, but I appreciate your civility and your thoughtfulness. If everyone was as sincere as you are, none of the ugliness found on the website would be. Thank you.

5. Well said, Obama does have better ideas than Clinton and really gets it.
Hillary just doesn't seem to know if she is coming or going. Obama has been consistent with his message of real change for Washington and you just know he will be able to make real change happen. Hillary is so much a part of the current political machine you just know she won't be able to get anything done because she really doesn't want too.

13. We'll never know unless we give him the opportunity.
First thing, at least he's talking about the right issues. No chance at all with candidates who do not discuss issues such as poverty, child care, and women's rights. I like the fact that he's engaging people of all ages and backgrounds.
