This video was inspired by the great article by Don Hanson of Alternet and which I read hear on DU

A new book claiming that Noah's Flood is responsible for the big hole is for sale at the Grand Canyon book store.

According to Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER) in a report released this week , Grand Canyon National Park is not permitted to give an official estimate of the geologic age of its principal feature, due to pressure from Bush administration appointees.

Furthermore, a book approved by the Service claiming the Grand Canyon was created by Noah's flood ,rather than by geologic forces, is on sale in the park for more than three years, even though a review was promised to Congress and the press. A Freedom of Information request reveals that no review has ever been requested, nor taken place.

"In order to avoid offending religious fundamentalists, our National Park Service is under orders to suspend its belief in geology," stated PEER Executive Director Jeff Ruch. "It is disconcerting that the official position of a national park as to the geologic age of the Grand Canyon is 'no comment.'" PEER urged the new Director of the National Park Service (NPS), Mary Bomar, to end the stalling tactics, remove the book from sale at the park and allow park interpretive rangers to honestly answer questions from the public about the geologic age of the Grand Canyon.

1. I am so sick of Bush and all his religious garbage
Even God is. He sent a tornado to Crawford today to tell the cocky little bastard to knock it off. He doesn't need him to talk for Him.

2. I think God is getting really tired of the wackos
He must be thinking these guys are just too screwy. He's probably eyeing that thunderbolt and is really tempted to fling one just for fun. A little comedy relief from all that noise they make.

5. OK, here's an idea.
Enough already. This bullshit has to stop, but it's not going to unless we make it. So if you, or anyone you know, is going to the Grand Canyon sometime in the future, make sure you pick up the book, and complain long and loud about it to management. I spent enough time in mid-management to know that if my customers had a problem with something, my boss heard about it. Let's couple that with contacting Ms. Bomar (there's got to be a way to email her) urging her to have the ovaries to stand up to these wack-jobs.

6. In the Constitution it specifically states Church & State
must be separated

To have Church doctrine end up at a national Park and to restrict scientists from stating the Truth
reminds me of the Vatican shutting Galileo up for saying the Earth revolved around the Sun

You can really see the Agenda by the Thought Police

19. smart people can handle offense
the fundies and millennialists just start squawking loudly, "RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE"

I find it offensive that people would find empirical scientific facts offensive.

“To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” Isaiah 8:20. The people of God are directed to the Scriptures as their safeguard against the influence of false teachers and the delusive power of spirits of darkness. Satan employs every possible device to prevent men from obtaining a knowledge of the Bible; for its plain utterances reveal his deceptions.”

“None but those who have fortified the mind with the truths of the Bible will stand through the last great conflict. To every soul will come the searching test: shall I obey God rather than men? The decisive hour is even now at hand.”

Faith may have its place for some, but for others that faith is in truth...

John F. Kennedy: Quotes on Truth
The enemy of the truth is very often not the lie - deliberate, contrived, and dishonest - but the myth-persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Albert Einstein: Quotes on Truth
The ideas that have lighted my way have been kindness, beauty and truth.

Oscar Wilde: Quotes on Truth
The truth is rarely pure and never simple.

Norman Schwarzkopf: Quotes on Truth
The truth of the matter is that you always know the right thing to do. The hard part is doing it.

The Bible, John 8:32: Quotes on Truth
The truth shall make you free.

Andre Gide: Quotes on Truth
There are admirable potentialities in every human being.

The Right uses the slipperly slope argument to great effect, and so should we.

9. Perhaps the *u**amentalists
have an explanation for the sea shell deposits more than half way up the side of Mt Everest too. In their strange world that would make the flood waters c. 3 miles deep. Never mind where that mind blowing volume of water came from - next time you meet one of these wierdos ask them where the water went afterwards.

10. I have a slight problem with the flood story ..... actually two
Edited on Sat Dec-30-06 11:41 AM by Wise Doubter
On this earth we have two types of water.

Fresh water and Salt water.

1. what type of water did the earth flood with? Where did it come from ? Where did it go? How did it re-separate?

2. How many different species of "animals" are on this earth?......and Noah got 2 of EVERY kind on his ark ?? um, yeah.... OK Why are some species geographically exclusive?

added bonus - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKZhd3mJeBE ">how/why did the Sumerians also have a flood story loooong before Noah?

24. This shows that they are not immune to PC.
In fact, the right in this country has always had their version of it, they have just been better at marketing the notion that it's a problem on the left.

There is no satisfying fundamentalist Christians anyway. Because their views in scientific matters run contrary to scientific methods and facts, they will always feel their views won't be given a fair shake.

Their goal is not scientific advancement, but rather censureship; therefore, they will always seek the next step towards undermining evolution or whatever it is they don't like.
