Excellent video. Does this country really deserve someone like Obama? We are in such a deep hole of shit. God give him the strength to persevere, and grant him the protection and safety to survive the hate and ignorance in front of him.

I was wondering how long it would take before this incredible Sam Cooke song would be used to define Sen. Obama's campaign. Absolutely beautiful, thank you so much for posting!

14. Ahem, ... Change HAS come |
|
Did you notice that all these scenes were from 40+ years ago? Granted, the timing coincides with the 40th anniversary the Dr. MLK assasination, but watching the presentation, you would think that we still turn firehoses and unleash dogs on peaceful black demonstrators. We no longer require African Americans to sit at the back of the bus, etc.
These are things of the past that have been changed. What CHANGES will Obama bring, and why must we be continually flogged with past injustices that have already been remedied?

Check the prison population? ... Not a valid argument. It is not exactly hard to avoid prison. Try obeying the law ...

|
And have you got against white folks? And what does it mean to be rich? How rich is that? Barack is pretty rich & privileged, wouldn't you say? We are ALL plenty rich when compared with those in third world countries.
... And what about Katrina? It wasn't like it was an earthquake that happens suddenly. You could see it coming for the better part of a week. Why didn't the Mayor use the parked school buses and get the poor folks out while there was time?
I wept plenty for the ones what were lost. I donated money for the recovery effort. For months I witnessed RV after RV being transported down I-65 to house displaced hurricane victims.
You know, IF and WHEN Barack Obama wins the Democratic nomination for President, YOU WILL NEED MY VOTE. So don't be so quick to chuck us rich white folks under the bus.
Thank you!

28. Incredible your ignorance astounds me. |

You blame Mayor Nagin for the more then thousand that died in Karina and the tens of thousands that were displaced..... you blame the storm but you lay no fault at the feet of the cow you worship who's husbands administration (for which she says to wit: " I was an integral part", then followed by the idiot Bush who both allowed for the deteriorated condition of the levees that broke and caused the disaster in the first place.
This is exactly what Obama wants to fix. The same old problems that when they do come to a head have dramatic effect on the minorities and underprivileged not the rich white folks that have cars, money and places to go and can escape from their situation.
What you saw in NOLA was the typical Urban plight of millions of minorities and underpriviledged, so yes i have something against anyone that will not help to fix this problem. We are all equal in this country but you wouldn't know it by looking around. Its way past time to even the playing field.

30. Now that you mention it under Bill Clinton's administration black |
|
American population in prison soared largely because of racist double standards for charging people with possession of crack cocaine as opposed to people in for possession of regular cocaine. The 3 strikes law also was implemented during the Clinton administration.

Not surprising given your avatar idol.
It's about change...and those who have sacrificed so that we may experience progress.
If you think we've arrived, if you think complete "change" has been realized, you haven't been paying attention.

Now THAT'S progress. Problem solved. Guess we can check that problem off our list.

You must acknowledge that change has occurred, no? That's not to say that it is done either. It just seems like whenever we talk about racial problems in this country, we go back to the 60's. Today's racial problems are more difficult & abstract.
Like equal pay across racial & gender lines ... For example, it is hard to compare apples to apples when talking about white collar jobs. Does each candidate have equal education, experience, and performance? It is hard to judge. Why, I don't even know how much the guy in the next cubical is making (nor should I.) It is easy to look at blanket statistics and interpret them how you wish. It is a much harder job to be able to pinpoint what is an infringement of an individuals civil rights.
If the boss is discriminating, shame on him. He should be called on it absolutely! However, it is tough to prove. Today's change MUST occur in the hearts and minds of us ALL, and that begins with civility.

now we use tear gas and shoot rubber bullets at protesters. instead of the nat'l guard we dress our cops like storm troopers to assault non-violent protesters. just because the protesters aren't all black doesn't make it any less egregious. there are still inequities in hiring. union labor being pushed out by folks willing to work for less w/no bennies. jobs being shipped to other countries. computer geeks being imported due to an alleged shortage of qualified americans. things may not be just black and white-but when white america gets a cold, black america gets the flu (stolen from tavis smiley). when the economy is bad-it is bad for all but, the poor really get smashed. there are statistics that have been published that all things being equal, blacks are still paid less than whites. women are still paid less than men. i guess the more things change the more they stay the same. sorry ned your rw propaganda belongs back on the free republic. your on du right now.

Do you portend that minorities are equal and have been given equal access to education, training and jobs? Do you believe that the playing field is even? based on your posts I suspect that you are a typical white closet bigot.
Just look in the mirror and ask youself honestly even if someone were to gurantee you a million dollars or financial success to become black would you change the color of your skin....
Didn't think so..... and why because people like you caused the stigmatism that is race.
