Remove Pat Buchanan from MSNBC PBS for being a racist. Read his "Brief for Whitey" at the site and throw his racism off the air.

1. Thank-you sister! That was great...
I think Bill is wrong in his claim that there's a "vast swath" of Americans who think like Pat Buchanan, but maybe (as my husband always tells me) I give people too much credit. I HOPE Bill is wrong.

3. Sadly...
I'd have to disagree with you. I do think Buchanan expresses the opinion of a lot of white Americans, who seem to have been sold a bill of goods that somehow the African-American community is getting advantages they don't have. It's not necessarily indicative of any deeply-held racial emnity, just a kind of intellectual laziness - the generally held belief seems to be that since we passed the Civil Rights Act, that took care of all of the racial inequities in this country - they're not interested in getting nuance about the differences between sentencing guidelines for rock cocaine versus powder cocaine - they're not interested in hearing about how Public Housing funds can be slashed in Philadelphia as political punishment for the city's HUD director not "playing ball" with a Bush appointee (can you imagine the outcry that would have taken place if that had impacted mostly low-income whites?) - it's our own national love affair with easy, one-size-fits-all answers. We passed a law, so we can walk away and say "well, that takes care of that", and now, any time anybody points out any of the problems that still haven't been addressed, they're accused of "playing the race card", or "reverse racism".
