1. What a stupid question. We don't need a CEO |
|
Only an idiot or a republican could believe that a country should be run like a corporation

This nonsense that America is a "business" is a dangerous bit of twaddle from the past 30 years of conservative ascendancy. It's so ludicrous to think you can run a nation on the same principles that you run a business. Businesses don't exist to serve their employees, or even their customers - they exist to serve their management and owners. And if that means the employees and customers get short-changed, then that's what it means.

15. Chief Executive Officer |
|
Corporation or government, that's what a president is and does; head of the Executive Department of our Govermment.
The electorate sure as hell should know this.

2. McCain and Hillary have no executive experience either. |
|
Edited on Sat Apr-05-08 07:32 AM by ryanmuegge
They're ALL fucking Senators!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! None of these three have been a governors or held executive positions in government.
My God, these pundits think people are completely idiotic. They just create these fucking storylines with no regard for the truth.
Anybody who has thought about this for more than five seconds knows that NONE of them have true "executive experience."

16. Its not a pundit story line; |
|
its a question we all should have been asking for the last year, BEFORE we discarded everyone.
GOVERNORS are chief executives of state governments.

5. I like how the "serious" media asks questions like that |
|
and they are oh-just-so serious about it too, like it's a valid question to ask of some candidate. All the while, we have the worst president ever in the White House, the same guy they all gave free passes to on everything.
I remember the media was wondering if John Kerry "looked presidential." Meanwhile, Bush had been embarrassing our country by acting like a complete moron for 4 years at that point.

9. It's the executive branch so they use corporate language to describe it |
|
which demonstrates the breakdown between the public and private sectors. Thinking people will note that this trend is only reinforced when the ex-head of the executive branch spends his post-presidency billing corporations for canned speeches and running up the score financially.

12. I've thought the same thing. That's the comedy of the "serious" media. |

It's all irrelevant stuff, but they take themselves so seriously while asking shallow questions. That's why Jon Stewart is so successful.

6. That would be a relevant question |

If we were headhunters looking for a CEO, and not citizens looking for a political leader.

7. Why Would We Want A CEO? |
|
I hope Obama does not act like a CEO. Too many government organizations do and that's NOT a good thing. The primary job of the CEO (of a publicly traded company) is to maximize shareholder returns. Than tell me why so many CEOs who take 7 figure bonuses while their stock prices plummet? Most corporations, led by their CEO, respond to decreased revenues by firing a bunch of lower wage employees and asking the rest to do more with less. They respond by cutting service and expecting their customers to deal with it. They respond by figuring out how to do things more cheaply with no thought as to the human cost. No where in the calculation does it occur to them they maybe should cut executive compensation. They rarely "fall on their sword" (figuratively, I mean) and even if they do step down, they get a nice parting gift that is more than entry level workers will earn in their entire careers.
Do we want a CEO like Enron's Kenneth Lay or James Cayne (Bear Stearns)?

10. We need a LEADER not a CEO |
|
Clinton on the other is a fantastic Administrator, who will keep the Status Quo and machine running smoothly as is.
Obama is a leader who can inspire the Nation to bring about a positive change.
We need a Leader, not a CEO or an Administrator.
