Clinton Tells Make-Believe Health Care Horror Story (4/4/08)

New video from yesterday -- April 4, 2008 -- in which Hillary Clinton tells her newest tale, a largely fabricated story designed to illustrate the horrors of our health care system. Remember that the woman in question received treatment from the hospital and did have health insurance. The level of detail with which Clinton tells this yarn is breathtaking.

The key issue here is that once again Hillary Clinton is showing a pattern of embellishment and fabrication. Our health care system is in crisis, and repeating false stories does nothing but help the forces of the status quo prevent change.

how did they get such a deep level of detail? This is so unnecessary and I can't figure out why she goes down these roads that always lead to her being called an exaggerator and an embellisher.

Hillary and her people should have KNOWN BETTER before plastering this story around. It has MANY problems on its face. This "professional" campaign should have confirmed the story with the hospital first. IRRESPONSIBLE !!

13. See how she talks about how the story so "HURT" her inside? She PLAYS to the audience.

This is why she lies and distorts so much. She works very hard to PLAY to the particular audience she is with. (If it's New Yorkers, she is a "lifelong Yankee fan." If it's a group of women, she turns into the "loving mother whose own daughter was in danger on 9/11." If it's the end of a debate, she "is honored to be with Barack Obama." If it's in Ohio, then "shame on you Barack Obama." etc. etc.) She wants so much to appear "human" because so many people feel she is so cold. You just don't know which Hillary you are going to get on any given day or at any given moment. I wonder if she suffers from multiple personality syndrome.

... or denied care to those who didn't have insurance, then what a different country we would live in. Please watch Michael Moore's movie "Sicko" to see how health care is denied so that insurance companies can make more profits.

The New York senator heard the story during a campaign visit to a family's living room in Pomeroy, Ohio, in late February. Bryan Holman was hosting the candidate and told Clinton the story. She has repeated it frequently since then.


Clinton's speech accurately reflects what she was told that day, but the campaign admits they were not able to confirm the account.

Clinton spokesman Mo Elleithee said, "She had no reason to doubt his word."

"Candidates are told stories by people all the time, and it's common for candidates to retell those stories. It's not always possible to fully vet them, but we try. For example, medical records are confidential. In this case, we tried but weren't able to fully vet the story," he said.



Elleithee added, "If the hospital claims it didn't happen that way, we certainly respect that, and she won't repeat the story."

"She never mentions the hospital by name and isn't trying to cast blame. She tells this story because it illustrates the point that we have a very serious health care problem in America. That's a point very few people will dispute.
