We need to stop our government from doing things without our approval. We need to pull our bases out of all other countries. We need to stop behaving like the world police. We need to stop the government and the media from lying and or omitting the truth to us. We need to get out of Islamic countries so we don't give them a reason to hate us for our trespassing on their land which violates their religious values. We need to take back our government.

...critical commentaries of our government becomes conflated with a larger concept of 'Hate Speech.'

I would like to pose as a question: What specific examples can one give that clearly constitute "Hate Speech"? I would further like to pose as a challenge: Contrast the previous specific examples with how one might discuss the items listed by Reverend Wright without migrating into the area of "Hate Speech"... Are there not instances where to speak of facts does not count as "Hate"?

Does anyone think that by attacking other countries the result is the engendering of a comprehensive attitude of peace and love toward the United States in those other countries? As Wright said before I cut him off in the video: Violence begets violence, and terrorism begets terrorism.

8. When you can see it, you can hear it. America does not like to hear about atrocities we cause but

we'll always listen to the good will we perform. What this video illustrates is America's jaded view of how we view ourselves through the eyes of a black man without judging how horrendous our actions have been. We shouldn't need anyone to tell us what we need to straighten out. We do need to abandon this mindset that gets us into wars. Obama said this. That is what is refreshing about his candidacy. It's the first time I've ever heard anyone say this. This is why he gets my vote.

Wright is correct in his assessment. I know no one wants to see it this way given how he said it but I'll bet if we read the words rather than saw him say it we may all come to understand that the words have substance.

13. As usual, people ignore points in the video because they don't want to face the facts. The media...

has proven some of you have been sound bitten. Some of you think visiting a religious figure is worse than voting for war, occupying a nation, killing innocent civilians. That's how narrow minded some of you have become. I think people who make these comments are appealing to the republican side of things. We see you, trying to stir up trouble. It isn't working.

Why is it that we think we can go around bullying others and killing innocent people with no consequences? We are not an innocent nation as we like to claim we are (and by 'we' i mean our government). The indians were virtually decimated. HELLO!! irony of ironies... our european ancestors were 'illegal aliens' taking over. This country was invaded by europeans and then populated by them. And anyone who got in the way was a barbarian and since they didn't thank their lucky stars that after they helped our ancestors survive this land, our ancestors repaid that kindness with murder. Africans were shipped here against their will to be enslaved by our ancestors. Our history is fraught with examples of how people can think so little of others. Then we are attacked and 3000 people die. People

around the world have suffered at the hands of terrorism for far longer than we, yet we feel we know best. Without taking the time to understand who attacked us and WHY... we go headlong into attack mode. Yes, afghanistan was what we should have done. But Iraq was something else. And Iraq is the reason why we were attacked... that kind of we are the boss of everyone. When there are people starving. People who suffer across the world. They see our government over look atrocities in one place, yet go after another because there is something valuable there to us. No, we are not an innocent nation. Our government has blood on its hands. As far as I can see, 911 happens every day in iraq. It happens all over the world.

I am saddened that people refuse to see the truth in what wright was saying. It's easier, I guess, to believe the 5th grade History book version of our history. I felt cheated and gypped when i found out all the propaganda and revisionist history that existed in my history school books. No wonder so many americans are perplexed by why these people could hate us so much. Why would anyone want to put themselves in the shoes of those people in Iraq who through no fault of their own have been thrust into a war zone. And there is little if anything they can do about it. I imagine how I would feel were that me who is just trying to get through each day while soldiers of another country and a president from another country control everything and nothing at the same time. And I think what I would be thinking of the rosy picture portrayed by folks who are not forced to live in that HELL that Iraq has become.

21. Excellent piece. The only point I disagree with is

"we never batted an eye". Plenty of eyes have been batting, for many years.

I was raised in a family that agreed with Rev Wright, and learned a great deal at libraries who tacitly condoned his message by stocking up on illustrative books, and have read a great deal of his point over the years right here on DU. Its odd that some now seem to have a problem with "speaking truth to power".

Very well done video, and I think it helps to make things clearer.
