2. Yeah, John McCain is full of shit and so is factcheck.org
Edited on Tue Apr-08-08 12:59 PM by goletian
factcheck says:

Obama twisted the words of John McCain, the likely Republican nominee:

Obama: We are bogged down in a war that John McCain now suggests might go on for another 100 years.

Actually, McCain suggested no such thing. Obama is referring to a statement that McCain made at a New Hampshire town hall meeting on Jan. 3. As we said before when the Democratic National Committee made a similar statement about McCain, the Arizona senator said that he would be "fine" staying in Iraq for 100 years "as long as Americans are not being injured or harmed or wounded or killed."

first of all, theyre ignoring what he said in the same sentence. how the hell can you have no americans being hurt in a volatile middle east with terrorists at work every single day? how the fuck do you reconcile those two things? you cant. second, "Obama twisted the words of Republican John McCain, saying he has suggested 'war' might 'go on for another 100 years.'" really? thats a fact check? arguing against obamas belief that mccain suggested something??? factcheck is full of shit, thats not even a fact you can check.

here is the mccain comment in full context.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=-VRAshmSdps

below is a very, very sarcastic post in response to some right wingers who were trying to defend mccains comments and claim obama was lying about them.

i like how the person asking the question brought up daily casualties of us soldiers in iraq and mccain busts out this awesome red herring to counter, lol. he keeps trying to play that angle to downplay iraq by naming other countries the guy isnt asking about. whats especially funny is mccains expectation when he says "maybe 100... that'd be fine with me as long as americans are not being injured or harmed or wounded or killed, then its fine with me, i hope it would be fine with you if we maintain a presence in a very volatile part of the world where al-qaida is training, recruiting, and equipping and motivating people every single day."

as long as no americans are being hurt or killed, its fine with me...
i hope it would be fine with you... if we stay in this dangerous place with terrorists

wha? i wonder if the crowd was at all confused when he did that quick turnaround right there.

its also really cool how smooth mccain evades the guys concern for open ended commitment to a volatile middle east (where daily casualties mount), by again listing countries/regions that are not iraq, lol. and the crowd gobbles it up like butta. hahaha. that is one smooth cat, that john mccain. hes goin places.

mccain is full of shit, factcheck is full of shit. anyone who doesnt see how mccain is trying to have his cake and eat it is a fuckin moron. you cannot have no americans hurt while they "maintain a presence in a very volatile part of the world where al-qaida is training, recruiting, and equipping and motivating people every single day." that shit doesnt go. hes trying to sugarcoat the war AND hang on to his fear mongering at the same fucking time. he got called out on his bull shit, and i hope obama doesnt drop the argument, because its a valid one.
