A lot of us don't watch videos or click on links if we don't know what it's about.

OMG - why is this not running on a loop on MSM? Tent cities....are we now officially a third world country?
I wonder what new market will emerge to make some money off of those already down. Why are people living in the streets while homes are abandoned and gutted? This is some straight up bullshit!

Answer - Because the American media has, for years now, been committed to projecting the image of American exceptionalism; the idea that America is immune to the problems of other nations (like getting tent cities during a recession). They're allowed to say things are tough but never too tough. They're allowed to say the economy is bad but only if they include lines about how the US economy is still the biggest in the world and so on. It's all intended to project the image of the USA as different and special.
Note that I'm not saying this is deliberate. It comes from two reasons. The first is that Americans are indoctrinated to this belief from birth (i.e. the daily recitation of the Pledge), leading to a sort of reflexive nationalism. The second is the concentration of media in corporate hands. The Beeb, which is under no pressure to make a profit and AFAIK never has, is able to report freely on US affairs.
