1. Is it really necessary
to stoop to the Nazi angle?

2. Perhaps instead of saying "America is like the Nazis" we should
Edited on Wed Apr-09-08 08:52 AM by ProfessorPlum
instead keep a list of things the Nazis did handy, and then judge changes in America based on whether we are moving A) in the direction of becoming more like the Nazi regime (or the Stalin regime, or your favorite authoritarian dictatorship here) or B) away from it.

That way, we don't have to forget the lessons of the past, but we can still profit from them as exemplars of where we wish to go. Because the hissy fit that everyone throws when someone says the word "Nazi" (I'm not necessarily characterizing your response in this way) is counterproductive to our actually using them as examples to guide our own way.

3. With our killing of one million Iraqis and growing, we deserve the label
The Reichstag fire, the marriage of our Government and Corporations...but the label is often counterproductive.

The song is great though, very catchy, and the evidence presented is worth watching.

4. Yes, definitely
When you say Fascist, all you get is a glazed over look and a Dick Cheney "So?"

That Final Solution project differentiated the Nazis from the Spanish Nationalists, the Italian Fascists, the Japanese, and all the other assorted fascist regimes. Nazis are fascists who have taken the external threat that all fascists rally against and have turned it into wholesale genocide. What little tolerance a fascist has to overlook someone's heritage if they will tow the party line is completely absent in the Nazi or the Klansman. No matter how much a Jew or a dark-skinned person would want to be one of the latter, appearance is their only criterion for carrying out murder.

The events in Iraq show that the fascist storm troops there are almost Nazi or Klan like in their activities. While they have not rounded up large groups of people to kill at random, there have been the killings of carloads of people, simply because they didn't like the way they looked. Very similar to the random killings the Nazis would administer in the ghettos and the concentration camps to keep the morale where they wanted it.

5. Personally, we can either call them Nazis or murderous criminals. Either
label fits. I favor murderous criminals these days because the word Nazi includes socialism and workers in the name, of which the Hitlerites were neither.
