will save everyone a ton of money and result in better health care all around.

And if you think they're a nightmare for patients, you should see what the doctors deal with. They get nickel-and-dimed at every corner, and they have insurance costs higher than most peoples' gross salary.

The HMO game seems to be to reduce their own costs by pushing the costs onto everyone else - patients, doctors, hospitals, and the government.

They don't perform a necessary role; they simply add expenses (and inhumanity) to the system.

Stringing up a few ambulance-chasers wouldn't hurt either.
