You know it's getting weird when a former First Lady with $100 million in the bank, and degrees from Yale and Wellesley — who served for six years on the Board of Directors of Wal-Mart (that great friend of working people) — is calling a black man an "elitist."

2. Some stark contrasts in that video
One candidate saying "everything's OK", the other understanding and willing to tell the goddamned truth.

3. This is so pathetic
Edited on Sun Apr-13-08 01:01 PM by Juche
John McCain is married to a millionaire heiress, I think they own 8 seperate homes. Clinton family earns an average of $13 million a year.

In the last decade Food prices have doubled or tripled, healthcare & higher education has doubled in cost, oil is 4x higher per barrel, there is a real estate foreclosure crisis, the economy is going south, fewer jobs offer healthcare, jobs are being shipped overseas, wages have stagnated, our economic policy always has money for war & tax cuts for the rich but struggles to get student aid or SCHIP, the national debt is almost double, we were lied into an unnecessary war by the Bush admin preying on our fears of terrorism, the constitution is being assaulted daily, the democrats are spineless, this war will cost $2-3 trillion in direct/indirect costs, we are torturing people in secret prisons, our reputation is destroyed, the corporate media has consistently dropped the ball on the important stories affecting our democracy, nobody is doing anything about global warming, we're being lied to all the time by a criminal government, Bin Laden is still free, accountability for the Bush admin is 'off the table', noone will talk about or address serious concerns about 9/11 or vote fraud, the Bush admin is trying to trick us into a war with Iran, etc.

I can't comprehend the mentality that makes someone think that a person who points out that these issues are making people angry and upset is elitist. What is even worse is when someone with 8 homes like John McCain claims to be a man of the people and people believe him.

And Hillary's voice was so fake and condescending. I can't understand why her supporters cheered. Can anyone explain that to me? I'm not trying to be rude, just curious. What makes a middle class worker who is probably struggling to buy food, fuel and healthcare while being terrified of losing their job cheer an obviously fake, condescending statement like that, esp from a multimillionaire? Did they not catch her tone of voice? I'm not trying to be rude, just curious.

4. I have completely lost respect for Hillary Clinton.
If she somehow manages to win the nomination, I will hold my nose and vote for her, because she would be better than McCain, but it is clear from this latest deparate attack that there is NOTHING - and I mean NOTHING - that she won't say or do to win.

I am starting to get the same sick, creepy, feeling hearing HRC speak that used to only get from George W. Bush.

Yuck.

8. Same here
I didn't like Kerry but voted for him anyway because he was better than the alternative and I'll do the same for Hillary. But her speech in Indy at 2:57 creeps the hell out of me for some reason. I don't know what it is either. If its the false pandering, the total lack of knowledge of facts on the ground, the belief that it is good to be uninformed and noncontroversial than to say controversial but true facts, the total lack of authenticity or sincerity or what. Something really bugs me about it. The idea that Obama is an out of touch elitist for living in reality bothers me, esp when people as privlidged (all 3 are privlidged mind you) as Clinton or McCain or saying it.

14. she had to read it
She had to make sure the statement read as prepared by someone. If she really really cares, why can't she speak for herself?

First contact has finally occurred. . .?

Kidding

I know it's probably the lighting but it looked odd to me.

10. I not sure which of Mrs. Clinton's terms is the more ironic
Elitist or out of touch?

If she thinks people who are facing foreclosure aren't bitter, she needs to go cold turkey on the Frank Capra movies. She grew up in a well-to-do Republican family and talks like it as she tries to relate to the circumstances of common people at the start of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. And she dares to call Obama "out of touch"?

Obama, as always, is confident in his observations. Yes, people are angry and bitter. Trying to paper it over with platitudes from Pollyanna won't change it.

12. I wonder if this will help the democrats
If the republicans have a field day with this and complain about Obama's statements I wonder if it'll backfire and paint them as completely out of touch with working class & middle class families. I hope so.

I heard a stat that 1/3 of people are now afraid of losing their jobs. In between that and finding it harder to afford the necessities of life (education, healthcare, fuel, real estate) I wonder/hope if the GOP rebutting with pollyannaish 'everything is fine' crap will totally backfire. A man can dream.
