5. K&R everyone needs to see this
Greenwald gets it. This is exactly what has been happening in our country. The media portrays us as freakish, elitist, out of touch, weak, unpatriotic and the GOP as the ones who can save us.

McCain should be 20 points behind right now since Bush and his policies are polling at about 30% and McCain is exactly like Bush. But he is not because the narrative is that McCain is a saint and we are freaks.

We have GOT to hold McCain to the same scrutiny as they use for us. We've got to get the media to somehow examine this stuff and we need to continue to push back when they circle the wagons around ABC, like they are doing now, to protect their own and their story line.

Otherwise we will drift further and further to the right until we won't recognize this country anymore.

Listen in. Greenwald is exceptionally articulate.

7. What I'm really tired of hearing...
is the BS about the liberal media bias.

I only see that evident on NBC/MSNBC, and it's mostly because of KO. Everything else leans to the right. Then there's good ol' fux fantasy land that claims to be "fair and balanced." I wouldn't have such a problem with them if they just wouldn't claim to be something they aren't. The only "democrat" on the whole network is that unbelievable pussy - Alan Colmes. If he was a real dem he would've made Hannity his bitch long ago. The only reason he is on the network at all is to make Dems look bad. Of course, CNN has Grandpa Lou Dobbs who claims to be an independent, but is really just a repenting repugnican that hates the two party system.

Oh, and Glenn Beck :puke:

Oh, and the radio :puke: I think most of the reason my area is so red is that NPR is, and always has been, available. Air America or any balance never has been, until the internet anyway. That's my theory on why rural america is generally red.

9. Greenwald says:..petty and personality based.
I am going to be just that. The two of them look like this perfect couple. I know they are both married and I know who they are and how great they are, but my first thought was how great they look together. I know I am being petty and personality based, but no harm meant.

NOT SO UNIFORMED AND THICK. Maybe if we had a public school system that traditionally had taught kids to think we wouldn't be in this mess - and yeah I guess that makes me a friggin elitist.

What Greenwold is saying essentially is that personal attacks work - unstated is the premise that they work b/c people by and large in this country are uninformed boobs. So Greenwold is saying that we should play the same games as the Repubs b/c it WORKS.

However, we have a generation of affluent Dems in the congress whose interests would NOT be served by the serious kinds of reforms that many of us here understand to be necessary.

My friends - hate to be cynical, but this won't end until Billy Bob can't get a damn chicken for dinner without paying $20.00 and gas costs 6.00 a gallon and they lose even their minimum wage job.

Oh, don't worry about it though - it will get to that point eventually b/c we have the greediest and most economically detached SOB's ever in charge. Unregulated capitalism will eat itself indeed.

Edited to add:

OH, Billy Bob doesn't even vote right now - and the only way to get him to the polls is by a populist message delivered at a time of economic extremis.
