From an article a DUER posted from ABC News
http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/Story?id=4728737&page=1

You know when climate change is biting hard when instead of a vast expanse of snow the North Pole is a vast expanse of water. This year, for the first time, Arctic scientists are preparing for that possibility.

"The set-up for this summer is disturbing," says Mark Serreze, of the US National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC). A number of factors have this year led to most of the Arctic ice being thin and vulnerable as it enters its summer melting season.

In September 2007, Arctic sea ice reached a record low, opening up the fabled North-West passage that runs from Greenland to Alaska.

The ice expanded again over the winter and in March 2008 covered a greater area than it had in March 2007. Although this was billed as good news in many media sources, the trend since 1978 is on the decline.

Its Disturbing all right

11. Not exactly just yet, but in the next 50-100 years that image will be very true more or less.
Still alarming though ain't it.

16. New York has to be worried about Storm Surge from
Hurricanes especially Cat 4 and 5

in the future of warmer seas that is a real possiblity coming their way

2. Inaccurate
This clip implies in two places that Arctic ice melting will raise sea levels, which is false. They should craft their message better, or when the Arctic Ocean does become ice-free and sea levels haven't risen much, the deniers will be handed ammunition.

The melting of the Arctic Ocean is an environmental threat to animals who need the ice to survive (polar bears and narwhal). The melting of ice currently on top of land (Greenland and Antarctica) is what will cause sea levels to rise.

And while you are at it, the music is annoying too.

6. Ditto, ditto;
And ditto. Good call, however, I would also add that not having while not having ice cover, this sets up the waters everywhere north of the Arctic Circle for warming because of the suns rays. This will raise the water temperature of the water, thereby having a detrimental effect upon fish. Studies done in the Antarctic show that by raising the water temperature by a fraction of a degree Celsius drastically lowers the amount of eggs laid and therefore fish populations. Be afraid; be very, very afraid.

9. Melting Arctic Forces Alaskan Village To Move
http://youtube.com/watch?v=PuMwVIfPgCs

The Inuit Village which for centuries have lived on a Island in the Artic in Alaska had to be evacuated and move
because of rising sea levels and angrier oceans Sea ice makes for calm oceans but no sea ice makes for rougher seas and higher tides

WIND VELOCITY picks up

this has already happened so don't tell me rising sea levels ain't happening

THE EPA HAS put out maps for those in denial showing insurance companies where those shores which are going under

get a reality check

perhaps higher gas prices is their way of getting major scaling back of CO2 world wide
if you can't buy it you can't use it

12. Not entirely...
The major sea level rise problems will happen within our children's and grand children's years, all of it depending on what we do in the next 10-15 years. Exactly why people like Gore are going Ape Shit about the problem bc his and my kids will have to suffer the consequences and live through what our lazy asses decide to do.

In our lifetime 2-5 feet at the most will be sea level rise. We have a window to slow it down before it becomes a serious problem for not just animals but humans as well. I live in Texas, and this could make us Australia part 2 which I'm not looking forward to.

3. the news is alarming enough without the flooding canard
floating ice melt will not raise sea levels.
The real issue is that open sea water will be exposed to
full sun and begin absorbing, instead of reflecting, 90 percent of
all the heat energy.
That heat will become available much more quickly than
was previously projected, and begin to work on the greenland
glaciers, which DO have the potential to raise sea level, since they
are land based.
In addition, there is more heat stress on the perma frost areas, which
contain huge amounts of carbon themselves.

At the same time, let's not get ahead of ourselves. Last
year's ice melt was ominous, but we need to wait and see
about this years. Nature rarely moves in straight trends.
Too much pessimism creates despair, which is an indulgence we
can't afford right now.

Look the human population was nearly wiped out about 70,000 years ago do to global events.
The universe and planets with in it, go through cycles, i suppose humans were responsible for the ice age as well....
I believe in a green society and not polluting our beautiful planet, be it air, water, or land as well as deforestation but i feel there is a much larger scheme to the "Global Warming crisis".
Can someone say 4% world carbon tax?

5. That's sort of like saying that murder doesn't occur
because people die from natural causes all the time. Just because climate cycles occur naturally, does not mean that this particular one is not a product of human activity.

Hope you enjoy your stay here. :hi:

7. There are yearly climatological records;
Going back for 10 million years. There is nothing like the severity of the problems we have now in that data. Be afraid; be very, very afraid.

8. ROFL

Is that all you have global warming, Rising Sea Level deniers

Baaaaawaaaaahaaaa!!!
falling off my chair

that oh there is no rock under the North Pole so there won't be Sea level rise

obviously you think Moisture stays in one spot
All that Ice when it turns into water is going to stay in the glass

but Earth isn't a glass my friends
When the North Pole turns into a OCEAN look at the pics of the SUN shining on that OCEAN
and think about this 24 hour sun cooking it ...its not ICE in the old days where it REFLECTED it back
It cooks it and then the water Vapor goes SOMEWHERE??? and then condenses cause of cloud cover and rains and rains and rains
and that rain can travel all over... Plus yes Greenland is on rock so that is definitely melting

So you all Deny it but alas the Dinosaurs didn't know what hit them cause they had too small of brains to see it coming

From the Same data source, the NSIDC. Data graphs showing that more ice is building up this year than last year.

13. if you read the article and saw the video you would learn
that sea ice increase means nothing because its thin and will melt faster than built up ice thats been there for centuries of which there is none and only thin sea ice... you chart doesn't tell the whole story...

14. This video has serious errors and needs work.
The damage from the cap melting has nothing to do with sea level rise. The damage is done from the lack of reflective ice.

So a combination of things like that leads to ice in Antarctica melting which cases sea level rise and again that lack of reflective ice causing a chain reaction.

And photos in a video need to be used lightly not the whole thing. Videos have a purpose... motion. There is multiple sources of video from the arctic around.

Do not use the default text settings in Movie Maker. Put some effort into it!

I don't mean to be mean but seriously I hear it from neocons time and again that the whole idea of global warming is just some powerpoint presentation. We need to look as professional as possible.
