ACLU sues Denver over secrecy on convention security
By Daniel J. Chacon, Rocky Mountain News (Contact)
Friday, May 30, 2008
The ACLU of Colorado has sued Denver again, this time to try to force the city to disclose what kind of police equipment it is buying for the Democratic National Convention in August.

Denver shot down the ACLU's open records requests for the information earlier this year, saying that disclosure was "contrary to the public interest" because it could "potentially disclose tactical security information of the Denver Police Department."...

The city received a $50 million federal grant to pay for convention security. Of that, $18 million will be spent on equipment, the ACLU's statement says.

However, Katherine Archuleta, a senior adviser to Mayor John Hickenlooper on policy and initiatives and his DNC liaison, said recently the city is going to spend half of the $50 million on equipment and the rest on personnel...

1. Less talk of protest in Denver. More talk of protest in Minneapolis. Please.

2. So it's okay if people in Minneapolis get hurt?
I'm confused, but thanks for that. (see my edit)

4. I miss your point?
Would Denver be spending $50 Million if they weren't expecting protests? They will use RIOT police, if that's what you want to call them. I am not advocating violence. Lots of DUers protest, in case you never noticed.
