"CNN's Kate Bolduan looks at the impact of foreclosures on pets."

The impact? Many are going to die.

3. That' so sad
Anyone who has lost a pet or been forced to put it to sleep or part with it knows how heartbreaking it is to lose them. Especially under these conditions, I feel terrible for those people who had to give away their pet because of the economic situation Bush has put us in.

4. I encourage any donations people are able to make!
If anyone wants to help and are unable to consider adoption, please contact your local animal shelter or find them online--most have wish lists. Some need things like old towels and bedding that you may have pushed to the back of your cabinet and even old newspapers. We have made a couple of donations to Yolo County SPCA and the Sac City Animal Shelter and to help with their swelling population. I know money is tight for most of us, but if you can afford to pick up an extra bag of treats or a toy to help make these animals lives a little easier, please do so.

Thanks, Hissy!

5. I just adopted two cats on 3/1/08 from a last chance shelter.
Two beautiful adult animals who are well behaved and wonderful companions. They both went into the shelter where I got them when they revolved onto the kill list at public shelters. Cat Assistance had one for 4 months and one for 14 months before we came along. Don't hesitate to adopt an adult animal, please! These two made a seamless transition into our family, and I know whoever had to give them up, or lost them, or went into the nursing home, or whatever tragedy befell them must miss them terribly.

6. for newspaper
if they truly need it, visit the dump on a nice Sunday. Piles of Sunday papers, read once or twice, clean, neatly folded and stacked in the bins.

7. I've been house hunting recently and have seen at least two...
cats left behind by their owners at foreclosed homes, with a paper plate in the backyard where someone left food.
The cats are just happy to see me, anyone, come "home". I can't adopt any (more) strays until I get my own home.

;(

"I could not have slept tonight if I had left that helpless little creature to perish on the ground." (Reply to friends who chided him for delaying them by stopping to return a fledgling to its nest.) - Abraham Lincoln, Sixteenth President of the United States

How heartwrenching for both pets and humans! Bless the humans who took their beloved pets to shelters. It reminds me of the gut-wrenching stories of people who refused to get on buses because their pets were not allowed on in the Katrina aftermath--rather, they opted to stay with their pets rather than abandon them. :loveya:

"Ever occur to you why some of us can be this much concerned with animals suffering? Because government is not. Why not? Animals don't vote." ~Paul Harvey
