Boehner the "Blame the troops" BASTARD~!

Reid: Boehner Blames the Military

11/1/2006 6:04:00 PM

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To: National Desk

Contact: Jim Manley or Rebecca Kirszner, 202-224-2939, both of the Office of Harry Reid

WASHINGTON, Nov. 1 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid released the following statement on House Majority Leader John Boehner's decision to blame the troops for Republican failures in Iraq.

"John Boehner ought to be ashamed. He's blaming our troops for failures in Iraq. If he wants to cast blame, he can start by looking in the mirror because he and his Congressional Republican colleagues have rubberstamped the Bush Administration's failed policy for nearly four years. Our troops in Iraq have performed bravely. It's political leaders like Congressman Boehner and Donald Rumsfeld, who have failed. I expect President Bush and Congressional Republicans, who demanded John Kerry apologize, hold their own party's majority leader to a much higher standard. There's no spinning his disparaging comments. He made them. He needs to apologize."

---

House Majority Leader John Boehner: Wolf, I understand that, but let's not blame what's happening in Iraq on Rumsfeld.

Wolf Blitzer: But he's in charge of the military.

House Majority Leader John Boehner: But the fact is the generals on the ground are in charge and he works closely with them and the president.

1. I wonder when the corporate media will run with this story.
Or will the press release from Sen. Reid's office get filed in the circular file?

Maybe all the Republicans claiming the generals are incompetent can head over to Iraq themselves and do a better job?

5. Now were cooking with gas...
Turn up the heat!!

They want to demand apologies, lets start with them.

I think John Kerry should apologize, right after George Bush resigns the Presidency for failure to uphold his oath of office. Right after Cheney discloses who he allowed to write our nations energy policy, and right after we see ALL the intelligence that led us to this war in the first place.

Lets start the apologies... its a long friggn list!!

31. Exactly.
The "generals in charge" are not "the troops". The top generals are administration picks more akin to the Sec. of Defense than a 20-year-old Army corporal. This will get no traction as a mini-scandal. Too bad, too, because these people are hypocrites.

13. Yep it's those damned Generals fault..........
those Generals that wanted 350,000 troops for an initial Iraq invasion, those Generals that wanted to stay in Afghanistan and get the job done instead of invading a sovereign country that HAD NOT attacked us........it's a good thing Rumsfeld didn't listen to those damned Generals, yes sir, a damned good thing he didn't listen. :sarcasm:

What a douchebag! Yeah, the "responsibility" party...........the GOP. It's always someone else's fault, never theirs. 6 more days...........6 more days until Americans tell these assholes..... ENOUGH! WE'VE HAD ENOUGH OF YOUR LIES! :grr:

16. What's a poor Neocon to do?
Boner has spoken! It appears that brilliant Rumsfeld-Cheney military strategy was handed off to incompetent generals who proceeded to botch every one of our various missions. First off, they didn't find the WMD's, and it's been downhill ever since. It seems our President just congratulated Rummy and his Veep for doing a FANTASTIC job. Yup, just like Brownie did for Katrina. Since Iraq is therefore our foreign policy Katrina, it's critically important for these two to stay on and continue being FANTASTIC, because those general's really don't know what they're doing. Wait a minute -- if Boner says the generals are total duds, but everything is going along FANTASTIC accoring to Bush, someone has to be lying, or in serious denial! We're talking serious conflicting accounts of reality here, but not to worry since the GOP spin machine will do a FANTASTIC job of explaining this one away, as always.

29. maybe not
I don't think it sounds like he's blaming the generals or the troops.

Plus, why would we want anything to interfere with the news that Bush is keeping Rumsfeld for 2 more years?

If it gets the play it should...that should just about seal our deal. Let's focus on that. I'm thinking that there's lots of Republicans out there who were holding on to the hope that Bush would fire him after the elections. I belong to a bi-partisan board...and most of the repubs are pissed.

Focusing on Boehner as an "look he said it too" only draws attention away from our political good fortune.(Or, in reality...our countries misfortune)

39. I think he *is* blaming the generals.
Especially since he said, the other day, that Rumsfeld is about the best thing since sliced bread.

However, IMO, we need to stick to the bigger themes of the election, rather than getting caught in the minutiae of mud-slinging with just a few days to go.

38. Agreed. Let's not get confused w/ petty accusations.
Stick to the big picture of their incompetence in conducting a war which they deceived the country into believing was necessary. Remind the people that our intelligence community and terrorism experts have declared that the Iraq war is hurting our fight against terrorism, and is aiding jihadist recruitment.

When faced with quotes of Kerry's comments, use a little political ju jitsu and focus on the realities of support for the troops: this Republican-run government has cut critical funding for veterans, failed to supply the troops with necessary equipment for their fight, and lied the troops into an unnecessary war. Point out that the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans Against the War have rated our national politicians on their demonstrated support for the troops -- and Democrats were found to be vastly superior to Republicans in actions supporting the troops.

Don't get into schoolyard name calling and mud slinging. We have the issues on our side; don't allow the issues to NOT be the topic.

what on EARTH would they do if Kerry unleased that kind of statement blaming the Iraq bungle on the GENERALS running it??? They'd say, "if you can do a better job Mr. Kerry, you get over there"

bonehead should be held accountable, all dems should speak of this tomorrow to focus away from Kerry, because what Kerry did was a gaffe, this is a direct insult on the guys leading the ground troops over there ---

I cry troop-hatred from Boner!!!

I demand news time for this blasting insult to the guys that are working their ass off with WHAT THEY HAVVVVVVVVVVVVVVE over there, when they can't fight a real battle, as they've said all along with 100,000 less troops then what was needed, minimum, to secure a FOREIGN COUNTRY!!!

Where is the outrage???? Where is Rush Limbaugh?? WHere is Tony SnowMcJob? Where is George Bush? WHy aren't they denouncing him??? He did not botch a joke, he said it straight up. It's the generals fault, according to Boehner. Does ANYONE thing that this talking point appeared accidentally? It was a talking point given to him, by the Pentagon or White House. Of course, once Kerry mangled his joke, they didn't need Boehner to do this... as all eyes were now focused on Kerry blaming the troops.
