3. Clark would be great!
He might even deliver Arkansas and pump up the white male vote as well. Plus, he's an effective speaker and a Rhodes scholar in addition to the other attributes mentioned on TYT. K&R! :kick:

4. This combination does make a lot of sense....
... How do the Rethugs counter Obama / Clark 08?

This would be an extremely powerful ticket - the best the Dems have had in years.

5. He was an open Clinton supporter
Which might count against him among Obama's advisors, but it could help Obama's ticket because it might appease the Clinton supporters since Clark is a guy both Hillary and Bill can get behind.

8. Sure hope Obama
and his advisors have better judgment than to allow that to count against Wes.

9. I believe Obama himself already answered that one.

I can tell you this. My goal is to have the best possible government. And that means me winning. So, I'm very practical in my thinking. I'm a practical guy. One of my heroes is Abraham Lincoln. Awhile back, there was a wonderful book written by Doris Kearns Goodwin called 'Team of Rivals,' in which she talked about how Lincoln basically pulled all the people he'd been running against into his Cabinet. Because whatever personal feelings there were, the issue was, 'How can we get the country through this time of crisis?' I think that has to be the approach one takes to the vice president and the Cabinet.

In other words, if he'd be willing to consider Hillary herself for the VP spot based solely on what's best for the country, he'd obviously be willing to consider one of her supporters.

6. Perfect choice
It deals with the McCain "experience" argument, as Clark is about 1000x more experienced (having been the head of NATO).

It deals with the military experience argument, a Four Star General vs Lt. McCain.

It helps with Hillary supporters.

It sets us up for a great Prez choice in 2016, when Obama's term is done.

I'm all for it!!!

14. Wes helped found it with Jon Soltz and Jeremy Broussard
Brandon Friedman is now chairman. Clark is on the board of advisors, which he chaired at one time, not sure if he still is chair of that board.

12. personally, i doubt it. obama has not followed conventional wisdom yet.
i don't know why he would start now. don't get me wrong, there is a lot to like in the general. but i like to think we are going down a path where the general are in the back seat. i hope so anyway.

13. He could be painted as a flip-flopper
Clark told the NY Times he would have voted to invade Iraq.

15. Not the IWR
He would have voted for the Levin Amendment to the IWR, which called for a second vote by Congress after a UN resolution. Ted Kennedy even said they almost, but not quite, had the votes to stop the IWR and they just needed more time. The Levin Amendment had that purpose. Clark has said a million time he would not have voted for the IWR. Every single person in both houses who has ever commented about Clark's influence on their IWR vote voted NO.

17. Heh, I've been talking me up some Obama/Clark 08 for a while
glad to see someone else sees what I do there. Ed Rendell, another good choice in a completely different way.

18. I agree with Cenk on this.
I wish it could be Edwards. Edwards has much more charisma and is the best debater of the bunch, but Clark has the right resume and is from Arkansas. They are a perfect match. And I think they will get along well. I suspect that Obama's team leadership style and Clark's loyalty and humility will work out well.

Both Obama and Clark are leaders, but both know how to work as team members too. And Clark is not overly ambitious. I have seen him speak in person in a relatively small room (at a small event in a hotel dining room the Dem. Convention in L.A. a couple of years ago), and he is not overwhelming. I was not that impressed with Clark as a debater. He is not a lawyer (as Edwards is).

I met Edwards on a day when things, in fact, were not going really well for him. He did not show it, however. I mean, you would never have known from his manner with the crowd or with those of us who met him that he was troubled by anything. He is equally great in a small group or before a large crowd. I have seen both. As I said, Edwards has a lot more charisma than Clark. Lack of ebullience and charisma is a drawback for Clark. Clark is more a doer, more of a down to business type. He is not an actor. Clark can even seem a bit depressed and unfriendly if things are not going his way.

The I think Edwards is a much better campaigner, but Clark has a resume that compliments Obama's so well especially with regard to foreign policy and military matters.

I do not think that Obama should choose a governor as his running mate. He needs someone with good national exposure and, if possible, with lots of leadership and foreign policy experience. Clark needs to do some work with Obama in crowds. Clark needs to do some town halls and debates with Obama if possible. Those are his weak areas.
