6. But you what about the tax cut for the super wealthy
Edited on Fri Jun-13-08 03:24 PM by TexasBushwhacker
from McCain? Yes, the Obama plan would have those making over $2.9 million pay (on average) $700K more in taxes, but McCain would have them pay (on average) $270K LESS! The journalist doesn't mention that though. You have to read it on the graph. Interesting .........

At least she pointed out that people making $66K to $112K are "pretty rich in this country". I know plenty of people making over $100K that talk about struggling to pay their bills.

7. The original report
http://www.taxpolicycenter.org/UploadedPDF/411693_CandidateTaxPlans.pdf

Check pages 34 and 35 for a VERY handy graph of the relative effects of Obama's and McCain's plans on after tax income. Obama's plan outperforms McCain's in terms of increasing the after tax income in the Lowest, second, third AND fourth income quintiles. The ONLY place where McCain's plan gives a bigger tax break than Obama's is in the top quintile of income earners, where Obama increases taxes and McCain slashes them.

McCain's biggest percentage increases in after tax income.... not just biggest absolute value... go to the top 0.1% of income earners. Obama's biggest percentage increases in income are given to the lowest quintile.

That graph is pure gold. Obama should have a Kinko's blow it up huge then take McCain up on his town hall challenge and walk in with it under his arm and destroy him. Or better yet, break it out at one of the national debates.

9. I'm not crazy about disproportionately taxing one class over another.
But Obama said a key comment about taxing people who work as opposed to taxing one's wealth. We've had nearly 30 years of Reaganomics and we've seen the income and wealth disparity accelerate since.

Like it or not, if you want to maintain a vibrant economy you have to redistribute wealth. Otherwise, you end up with a feudalistic society of haves and have nots.
