Obama in Columbus, Ohio:

I've known Tim Russert since I first spoke at the convention in 2004. He's somebody who, over time, I came to consider not only a journalist but a friend. There wasn't a better interviewer in TV, not a more thoughtful analyst of our politics, and he was also one of the finest men I knew. Somebody who cared about America, cared about the issues, cared about family. I am grief-stricken with the loss and my thoughts and prayers go out to his family. And I hope that, even though Tim is irreplaceable, that the standard that he set in his professional life and his family life are standards that we all carry with us in our own lives.

1. My god, Obama is shameless.
Russert was a weasel with a dull mind and a boring TV persona. Unforgiveably, he was always obedient to power -- the very model of the journalist on bended knee, the willing sycophant, power's bitch.

Does anyone truly believe Obama considered that Little Eichmann "one of the finest men I knew"?

4. Great statement off the cuff...
..Listen, we can all think what we want of how Russert may have favored certain politicians over others. However, it was a big deal to appear on MTP above all other Sunday morning shows. There was a reason the show had such prestige. Russert was one of the best in his field (I myself prefer the likes of Bill Moyers, Bob Schieffer, Jim Lehrer) and the pols respected him.

As for the post saying that Obama was shameless with his response; what on earth do you expect him to say? Surely you jest. Sen. Obama was eloquent as usual with his impromptu comments
