9. Would have called you psychomommy
as a joke, but I don't know how angry a Black woman you are? ;) My daughter was home this morning, because she took me to the hospital for a procedure, and she saw something semi-negative on MSNBC on Michelle and a comment about her saying that she felt like an outsider. My daughter said, "Don't they get it. All minorities feel like they are outsiders and sometimes don't feel like they really belong here." I looked at her and said "Yes, but I feel like that too. Maybe it's because I think the way I do; because I'm white but I'm don't think white." She just shook her head and said these people were just stupid, and she was a very angry Latina.

And that is the whole problem, these people have no empathy for the way others feel. They take their own ideals and the way they think and project it onto others. "He's an angry black man." What does that mean to them. Do they look at why this person is angry and if he really is angry-who is he angry at. No, they see anger and they think of their own hatred/anger and project this on to the other person, not realizing that their reality is not his. Why I said YEA when Barack talked about teaching children to have empathy. That is a very important lesson to learn. I was taught it as a child and I taught it to my children. I remember when my daughter got so angry at me, and said it was unfair of me to always make her see things from the other person's view when she just wanted to be angry with them. :D

10. i always say leave the ho out of it. (psychomommy hahaha)
i thought empathy was innate. when some of these people think of the "angry black man" they are afraid because of what was done to us-they fear retribution. they think blacks are gonna rise up and kill all white people. it is their guilt that causes them fear. they can't feel empathy because they feel guilty. there are some women out there that don't want to see a black first lady. how hateful. they want to tear her down but, all they can come up with is she doesn't love america, she's angry. she carries herself with dignity and she can hold her own on the campaign trail. i would be proud to have her as a first lady, representing our country around the world.

will go ahead and answer. From what I have learned, empathy is not innate. If it was, there would not be so many people who don't have it. It is much easier to have sympathy for someone than to have empathy. Empathy is more of a nurture trait than a nature one.

The way some people are reacting to Michille is very apparent. Barack comes across soft and controled, so they can accept him better than they can her. She has more of the city attitude, where he still emotes the laid back attitude. I laugh at the angry thing they have put on Michelle. They don't know what an angry woman (Black, white or whatever) looks/acts like. My sister is afraid that African Americans will riot if Barack is elected, because as a small white town person her ideas about Blacks come from what she has seen on tv and that includes the riots they showed years ago. But this woman loves Michelle Obama. She does not see her as angry, she sees her as being like her, as being honest and understanding what it is like to live in the real America. She voted for Barack in the primary and as far as I know will do so again in November, but would rather vote for Michelle. She might not understand that other cultures are not that different from her own, but she would be proud to have Michelle as her First Lady. Heck, she would be proud to have her as her president. And so would I,.

I think that Barack and Michelle will be beautiful as the first couple, and I agree that they will make us proud they are representing our country.

4. GOP talking points are dragging the bottom now
they absolutely need to be called on it, but ** it is a divisive tactic!!!! Don't take the bait & feed the monster!!!!!**
We knew it was coming, knew they would play dirty....well here it is.
They are desperate and cannot address the issues, they have to resort to tabloid journalism, they are trying to piss people off.
