4. Anytime I see Lara walking with our soldiers and marines in

Afghanistan or Iraq, I am amazed that someone with her intelligence, eloquence, poise, and beauty would not choose something more glamorous. However, Lara Logan is blessed with a sense of mission and strength of character, making her truly special. She is a gift to the world.

5. Cenk blames the higher-ups

for shelving any legitimate reporting that conflicts with lies the administration wants us to believe. He calls for transparency in the media and he's absolutely right.

The media has largely become the propaganda arm of the Republican party and it's been that way for years. The truth has been hidden from us, and, like Cenk says, it's not the Lara Logans and the Michael Wares, it's the higher ups who censor the news. He says, "We need to find out who the hell these people are, and why they're making those decisions." These people are just as, if not more, responsible for the mess we're in as the current criminal administration. These people need to be exposed and held accountable. And then punished for un-American activities.

If we had one, just ONE, major news organization that was consistently honest none of this might have happened and we wouldn't be in Iraq.

She is a hero. She goes out there each day and risks her life just like the soldiers do.

She MUST be so well respected by the soldiers and our military. I use to think Lara would be perfect doing the evening nightly news but I doubt she would take it if offered. You can tell shoe loves reporting on the field. She is a class act and I could listen to her speak all day long. She has the most soothing voice and I just LOVE the accent! I hope and pray CBS appreciates her.

8. Cenk is right, we need transparency in the news

It is called 'the public airways'. Why shouldn't the public know every time an important story is censored from public knowledge?

But it has been going on for a long time. I remember a documentary from way back during the Sandinista Revolution in Nicaragua, and the Contra war called Only the News That Fits - they showed a rare inside clip of what went on at ABC. Peter Jennings was in the room along with producers, and a government rep was there as well. They were reviewing a Peace Demonstration in Nicaragua with people crying out for an end to the Contra attacks. The government rep said that they 'couldn't' say it was a peace demonstration. He thought about it for a second and then said for them to call it a Pro-Sandinista/Anti American demonstration instead. This was back in the 80's.

What has changed is that back then it was more about "protecting" the American image. Now it is more about specifically protecting the Neo-con Republican image.

but she was born and raised outside the United States, in this case South Africa of all places.

It's another case of a journalist not carrying the pro-U.S. baggage and thus being able to tell it like it is. Ashleigh Banfield (Canadian), Christiane Amanpour also come to mind.

The vast majority of American TV news people can't or won't buck the administration line or venture outside American "conventional wisdom." They just go along to get along. It seems like only outsiders who weren't born and raised in the system and all its propaganda can speak the truth.

There are some exceptions –– Olbermann, Phil Donahue, Helen Thomas come to mind -- but they're few and far between.

It's a sad commentary on U.S. "news" media and culture in general.
