1. NO, and it does not give you any war experience either
Edited on Sat Jun-21-08 12:01 PM by cmt928
I have read many Vietnam vets considered him nothing but a FLY BOY - he flew his planes, dropped bombs on people (some enemy, many more innocents), turned around, IF HE DIDN'T CRASH first, then went back to a safe ship.

Vets say he had NO CLUE as to what was happening on the ground and to all the troops that were fighting that awful war.

He can be commended for suffering torture for this country, but that does not qualify him for foreign policy experience, war experience, nor presidential experience. In fact, I think it may DISQUALIFY him - anybody who is tortured may have long lasting affects emotionally & mentally along with the physical affects!

20. An unimpressive military career
Edited on Sat Jun-21-08 11:32 PM by minnesota_liberal
Was admitted to the Naval Academy only because his father and grandfather were Admirals, graduated in the bottom 1% of his class, got a fairly cushy assignment and managed to crash 5 planes. Yes, he was a POW, but even McCain admits that he was treated better than most POWs.

As a pampered fuck-up, McCain is uniquely qualified to serve as president in the grand tradition of George W. Bush.

3. Are we saying....
...that the stories about McCain being the 'go to collaborator' for the North Vietnamese are pure fiction? Somebody set me straight.

11. And as greased up muscleman...
He can understand the plight of billions of hotdogs unceremoniously cooked in a buttered frying pan instead of being roasted properly on a stick over a raging campfire.

I tip my hat to him....

7. Experience at ... enduring isolation and abuse
It has no value in leading others, making policy or making decisions that affect the lives of millions.

10. We are electing as President. Not a POW.
... seen this several times already and for my money it is the most articulate, graceful, effective take down of grampy mcsame ever. And I love the stammering incomprehension of the woman anchor: she parrots the pow meme and Clark digs in deeper. Loved it!

14. If being a POW is the criteria to be used..
for being President, then my Dad, who was a POW of the Germans in WWII would be well qualified. I guess I'll have to call him up and let him know that he missed his chance.

16. Yes, Clark took her down.
After her spouting something like "mccain? You're talking about mccain? The war hero?" over and over. I am sick of this type of attitude that because of something that happened over thirty years ago his policies and his qualifications cannot be questioned. We shouldn't attack him over what happened then but we should be able to question his temper and his ability to deal with it. We shouldn't attack him over his age, but we should be able to question him about why his attitude about torturing and other bush policies have reversed themselves in the last year or so.

13. here's the thing...
If the most important part about being the president was being able to withstand great amounts of physical pain for prolonged periods of time when you were in your thirties, then McCain's POW experience would have Obama beat.

But if the most important part about being the president was being able to make sound, principled judgments on a wide range of issues while maintaining a cool, collected mindset, McCain would have absolutely nothing on Obama, as he as proven he is anything but calm, cool, collected, and principled.

Now, which one of those descriptions is closest to the real job of POTUS?

18. To explain what is important,
General Clark also said:

"He's never been responsible for policy formulation. He's never had leadership in a crisis or in anything larger than his own element on an aircraft carrier or in managing his own Congressional staff. It's not clear that this is going to be the strong suit that he thinks it is. McCain's weakness is that he's always been for the use of force, force and more force. In my experience, the only time to use force is as a last resort. When he talks about throwing Russia out of the G8 and makes ditties about bombing Iran, he betrays a disrespect for the office of the Presidency."

This explanation should be spread ALL OVER!!!!

Say that McGoo was a "Songbird" and I'm sure they weren't talking about whistling. I hope his own take him down. He deserves to every bit he gets. He is a phony like Bush.
