Heinz pulled this ad after letting it run for a week because 200 people complained it was not suitable for children to watch.

I thought it was hilarious. I sent the link to many friends who also found it funny. I know it made right-wingers heads explode but, and be honest, isn't that just a bonus?

I think my marriage just crumbled and my children are now warped beyond repair knowing that all families are not as angry and distant as mine is.
:sarcasm: of course
I think it is a delightful advertisement. Perhaps 500 pro letters would change their mind?

6. It's a good ad, but the kiss in unnecessary. |
|
I don't understand how that helps sell mayo.

8. Isn't it kind of the point that he Kisses his husband goodbye? |
|
nobody would say it wasn't necessary if it was a woman. That's the twist.

That's kind of what I'm saying. It seems that Heinz is trying to make a point.

13. What I mean is that's what gets your attention... |
|
From a marketing standpoint it's what will make people remember the commercial and talk about it.

22. Not at all. It was explained that the mayo was so good, it was like having a deli at home, and the |
|
guy in the kitchen is actually supposed to be mom preparing the food. How many people would have ever made that connection? Lousy commercial or lousy excuse to backtrack that it was a gay commercial, IMHO.

19. I believe the point... |
|
Is that their mayo makes "Mum" seem like a deli shop owner. It's not a "gay" thing as much as it's a "deli-mayo" thing.

*sigh* And to think, people accused ME of bigotry because I forgot to include the word "fundamentalist" in my title...

I'm surprised they show ads like that on TV. Is that common in Europe?

From your website: Diversity
One very important ingredient in the Heinz family of products is Diversity.
Diversity is recognizing and understanding the differences in culture, beliefs, and values each of us brings to the workplace.
At Heinz, we strive to encourage and foster a global workforce where all employees are valued and respected. It is this skilled and talented workforce that enables Heinz to realize its full potential and to be more responsive to the needs of our customers.
Diversity is a key ingredient in achieving future successes with employees, customers and suppliers at Heinz. --- How much diversity is there when you pull an ad because 200 people complain?
The ad, "Mum", was in no way offensive. It was clever, well written, and just downright funny.
I'm greatly disappointed that Heinz buckled to pressure because others don't agree with the diversity that you espouse.

24. Only 200 people complained directly to Heinz - they can't measure word-of-mouth or the numbers who |
|
didn't formally complain. Had to nip it in the bud before it mushroomed out of control a la far Right, IMHO.
