5. Yes I do actually
It is insulting for you to ask in that way. You are suggesting that it is not possible for me to disagree with him if I know who he is and I do not appreciate that.

10. Not at all CherylK

You're entitled. I just wish you'd consider a few other things, but if you don't want to, that's up to you.

:hi:

I just did not like the tone of that last post. Maybe I read it the wrong way? We can agree to disagree!

13. I'm sorry too...

I'm trying to stop being argumentative online, but it's kind of hard. He has changed his show alot. Here are some interesting interviews you might like to check out:

-------

Debra Dickerson interview
Part I - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwC8qBUWWLk
Part II - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_qT0YMNgYo

Dick Gregory interview (50 minutes)

There are more interesting interviews. If I can find them online , I'll post them.
==============================

Meanwhile from the Huffington Post:
I'm Standing With Imus in the Morning
Imus' new show has all the humor without the cringing. It is funnier than ever, with new cast members and a whole new group of broadcast personnel and executives to skewer. Imus has covered racial matters exceedingly well, including having Dick Gregory on the show for extended stints.

To hear the show in the Bay Area, I have to record it on my computer while I am sleeping and then transfer it onto my iPod. Inevitably, I am the only person in my BART car with a smile on my face.

But you have to admit that even if he did not mean it he did a really poor job of saying it the right way. He should have explained right then and there what he meant, especially in light of his other comments that got him fired!

16. Absolutely...

..and even Dick Gregory said that a lot of people will not give him the benefit of the doubt, and they shouldn't.

It is what it is.

;)

But seriously, why can't people have a reasonable disagreement about this?

Personally, I'm on the fence, which is why I put a question mark rather than an exclamation mark at the end of the subject line. People can and will decide for themselves.

4. I'm probably the only person on this planet who thinks Imus didn't
mean it like it sounded. An Imus spokesperson said what Cenk threw out as a possibility -- he was inferring that the reason he'd been arrested so many times is because he's black. A white guy probably wouldn't have been so harshly punished. I can hear myself saying it with just that intent.

I don't think Imus would have said that with the meaning we're taking from it. Even if he BELIEVED it, he's too smart to say it on the radio.

So there you go. I don't think he meant it like it sounded, I think he was alluding to the unfair treatment blacks get when it comes to the law, and it's too bad he expressed it that way.

I'm not an Imus apologist, and regardless of how anybody else takes it, this is how I interpret it.

15. i 100% agree with you
virtually all of us have some prejudice within. however, he should have been smart enough to realize what he just said could have been misinterpreted. he will apologize, then end of story.

20. I'm not one to give benefit of the doubt easily, but in this case, I agree.
I listened to the clip, and though it could have been expressed in a clearer way, that's what I got from his remarks.

9. He shouldn't be fired. This is what satellite radio is for: allowing people to say whatever the fuck
they want. What is the point of having satellite if somebody's going to get in trouble every time they say something controversial?

If the market, however, dictates that he should be fired, then so be it, but nobody should be fired over the content of what they say alone.

17. He should be fired but not for being racist. He should be fired for being boring.
If the content of what he says is lame, and people aren't listening, the market will indeed dictate that he should be fired.

He never was funny but at one time he was on one of our local AM stations and was an alternative to the top 40 dreck, corporate country crapola, and morning zoo Howard Stern wannabes, so I listened for about a year. What I noticed was that his show was mainly a platform for various DC media types (like the late semi lamented tim russert) to show up and promote their latest book. But apparently I was one of the few who actually listened so the station cancelled the show after about 18 months.

Five or six years later after i had retired I happened to turn on MSNBC early one morning and there was the show again. Same format, same boring beltway insiders kissing Imus's ass, same jokes same everything. Only you had to look at him sitting there with that ridiculous cowboy hat on. I watched for a day or two and decided I needed the sleep worse than watching that crap.

I actually believe MSNBC and CBS used the nappy headed ho bit as an excuse to get rid of that piece of shit show.
