Senator Dodd (D-CT) filibusters FISA, the bill that gives retroactive immunity to telecom corporations that illegally spy on Americans.

Text of Full Speech as Prepared for Delivery: http://dodd.senate.gov/index.php?q=node/4476

"None of our fellow Americans will have their day in court.

What they will have is a government that has sanctioned lawlessness.

Well, I refuse to accept that, Mr. President. I refuse to accept the argument that because this situation is just too delicate, too complicated, that this body is simply going to go ahead and sanction lawlessness.

We are better than that.

And if I have needed any reminder of that fact, simply look to all those who have joined this fight -- my colleagues and the many, many Americans who have given me strength for this fight. Strength that comes from the passion and eloquence of citizens who don't have to be involved, but choose to be nonetheless."

1. His speech made me
feel proud of my country again. I'm glad to know that is going into the into a permanent record for the future. I'd hate to think that when students look back to study us that they would think that no one tried to protect our constitution. It is curious how the Founding Fathers were still so much more intelligent than we are today. Maybe it was from living under tyranny that they knew from what abuses to protect themselves. How can we have de-evolved and become less philosophical and intelligent? Dodd is eloquent. I hope he has some important post in the next administration.

3. Dodd deserves a post in the Obama admin
But that would also mean we'd lose him as a Senator. Hard choice.

2. This will be a landmark moment in American
Hopefully, it will be the triumph of the resistance to the tyranny of neoconservatism and the fascist-like unitary executive theory.

Dodd, Feingold, Wyden and Boxer are a collective Horatio leading the defense of the bridge. This bill shall not pass.

5. I hope you're right. But...
* usually gets his way in the end. Let's hope that as Nov. draws near, the Dems are finally growing a spine. (7 years too late)

6. It may be the moment when Congress officially joins the police state by
legislating obstruction of justice and creating a corporate class above the law.

8. How long does a speech have to last to qualify as a Filibuster?
How long did it go on last night?
