1. What a....
...motherfucker. If I was a member of the committee, and thank God I'm not, I would have told the fat bag of shit to put the paper down and there would have been no question that he would carefully consider his next facial tic with due diligence.

3. actually he said that he was a barnacle on the Executive branch
Edited on Fri Jun-27-08 07:08 AM by notadmblnd
Addington said that the v pres belonged neither to the legislative or executive, but was attached by the constitution to the later, which would be the executive office. To me, in plain English... that means that the VP is part of the executive branch.

4. Either way I believe he amounts to a
parasite on whichever branch he is attached to and steps should be taken to remove it. Impeachment comes to mind.

5. That's backwards - he says executive or legistative - legislative is the "latter"

Sounds like it's time for a Constitutional Amendment. Addington and other power-greedy fuckheads are clearly going to exploit this loophole until Congress plugs it.

9. Me, too! :)
I've been plunking around writing a Constitutional amendment to plug this hole (after reading the two memos Addington deigned to thrust at the Senate).

1. The Vice-President is hereby and expressly declared to be a member solely of the Executive Branch of the United States Government.

2. When fulfilling his or her Constitutionally entailed duties as President of the Senate, the Vice-President shall be subject to the rules and scrutiny of the Senate as if she or he were a member. However, no actual membership in the Legislative Branch is granted by this Amendment.

That should pretty well fix it.

7. This was great!

I heard this exchange yesterday and thought Cohen was a hoot. John Wu was also questioned. Asked about whether or not the president had the right to order people tortured, he never directly answered the question. I think the questioner said something about "you just want to play games here".
Wu seemed a little nervous but Addington - he was totally contemptuous to the point of sickening.

8. It was Conyers who said to Yoo, we know what kind of games are being played
when John Yoo was evading every question with a non-response.

These guys know they are likely facing war crimes tribunals.

David Addington and John Yoo visit the Hill.
Slate - 13 hours ago - http://www.slate.com/id/2194326/

By Emily Bazelon

Two hostile witnesses are better than one. This we learn today on Capitol Hill from the mashup of David Addington, the vice president's consiglieri, and John Yoo, author of the 2002 and 2003 torture memos. Appearing before a House subcommittee, Yoo-Addington is like the witness version of good cop-bad cop. Yoo is wide-faced, plaintive, perplexed as to why anyone in Congress might be upset about anything he's written or done or his refusals to answer their questions. He goes for schoolboy sympathy. Addington, on the other hand, is all stern-faced headmaster. No one is schooling him today, thank you very much.

The purpose of hauling in these reluctant witnesses, Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., says at the outset of the hearing, is to examine the role of Bush administration lawyers in developing interrogation policy—the policy that led to water-boarding and other harsh methods that are hard to square with the Geneva Conventions, no matter how long you squint at them. .....

10. A "wart" on an ass-hole would make for a more accurate analogy!
