I wouldn't expect much. From the Reuters release that came out before Hersh's article went online at the New Yorker:


The article said U.S. support for the dissident groups could prompt a violent crackdown by Iran, which could give the Bush administration a reason to intervene.

None of the Democratic leaders in Congress would comment on the finding, the article said. The White House, which has repeatedly denied preparing for military action against Iran, and the CIA also declined comment.

As Hersh says in the interview, they probably aren't able to comment on what they know, or don't know.

(The CNN story sez the Iranians say they dug 30,000 graves so any attacking force will be buried decently-- that's nice of them.)

There will be no attack against Iran. this is classic bully tactic: Bush is telling to the world, the American people and us democrats just before an election that increasingly makes them look weak and defeated: "we are big swinging american dicks, what are you pussies going to do about it?!". Classic schoolyard bully stuff. these people in the republican party and the right wing national security establishment never grew out of highschool. But the fact is we are collapsing economically as we speak. We are where the Soviets were in 1984 just before Chernenko died and Gorbachev came to power: economically, politically and morally bankrupt after a fiasco in Afghanistan and Iraq and the treasury emptied by a bunch of out of control old school cold warriors on steroid. the next president, regardless of party affiliation will have to pull the curtain on empire: it's an economic necessity. If we don't pull it a dustbowl depression will do it for us.

On June 12, armed bandits conducted a nighttime raid on a police station in the Iranian border town of Saravan and took 16 police personnel hostage including the commanding police officer, Mohammadi-Raoufi and his deputy Piri.

The hostages were later taken into Pakistan.

The bandits were members of a terror group known as Jundallah, which is led by Abdolmalek Rigi, a criminal figure believed to be responsible for numerous murders, beatings and kidnappings in southeastern parts of Iran.

International sources and other evidence indicate that although Jundallah has close ties with al-Qaeda, it is funded by the US government.
