CNN’s Ed Lavendera reports that Congress is giving $100 million to pay security expenses for this summer’s political conventions. Denver and St. Paul officials have said that the types of weapons being purchased are “top secret.”

The ACLU is suing both cities to disclose how security money is being spent.

1. It's key to stealing the election.
1) Keep things divisive between Dems right up to the convention.
2) Send in black masked 'disrupters' to give the police a reason to come down on the protesters, a la WTO Seattle.
3) Police action sparks REAL protests.
4) Police get to try out their sonic/microwave/whatever crowd control devices, live on TV, showing the world that the Democrats can't even manage their own convention - how can they run the country? - and millions of independents back off from the Democrats, losing us the election.

Even if enough do NOT back off, with the voting machines putting up any numbers they want all they have to do is point at the convention as 'evidence' as to why the vote defied the pre-voting polls.

6. 1) It's DIVERSITY not "divisive."
The democrats are a very diverse party. We will argue about everything under the sun. Right up until it's time for us to walk into the booth and vote democrat. The day democrats are of one mind and one opinion walking in lock step. That's the day we become the (D) branch of the Republican Party. If we were gonna drink BLUEberry kool aid while reading our DNC talking points before doing our best Borg impression. "Resistance is futile." You would think we would do that on the impeachment of Bush & Cheney. But not everyone is on board with even that. If you want to take one of our greatest strengths and try to turn it into weakness. Then keep calling it what it's not. Divisiveness. Instead of calling it what it is. Diversity.

7. No, DIVISIVE is exactly what I meant.
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/07/09/clinton.obama/index.html

Diversity of opinion is all fine and well, but threatening to vote Republican instead of for the party's nominee is NOT diversity of opinion - it is an act of divisiveness.

From what I've seen, the vast majority of the Hillary holdouts are NOT democrats - they are republicans, with a history of supporting republicans, yet NOW they are "Hillary supporters" who "just don't like him" and "don't trust him". They are deliberately creating the impression of a deeply divided Democratic party, despite the fact that most Hillary supporters, like Hillary herself, have declared themselves in support of our nominee.

The republican owned media is pushing the 'divisive' meme with the cooperation of a relatively few republican moles and DLCers, to create the IMPRESSION of a divided party - how many times have we heard them spouting the "18 million Hillary supporters that need to be catered to" meme? Never mind that 17.5 million of them are backing the party's nominee. It's the media's story, the Republicans' story, and THEY are sticking with it.

4. Fucking CNN - I was in the dentist's office this morning and watched 10 minutes of
Mitt Romney on CNN, dealing on Obama with no questions asked. Just ten minutes of free air time to bash Obama's policies, lie about gas prices, and suck John McCain's d*ck.

THIS is why i don't watch television.

Its no wonder America is dumber than a bag of rocks, if the average person is watching 10-12 hours of this shit each week.

5. I thought this was about the GOP convention
What violence are they expecting in Denver? I think the agents provocateurs will be trying hard to start something, but they'll be laughed at.

If I were in law enforcement, I'd be more worried about the GOP convention. Imagine a whole stadium full of gun nuts, Timothy McVeigh types and abortion clinic bombers.

And that doesn't include the Ron Paul fanatics who are threatening to sabotage the McCain coronation.

11. The Ron Paul contingent is pretty aggressive.
Democrats just want to win. I disagree with Obama on FISA. I feel he is terribly wrong to have voted for this bill, but I support his candidacy. At the moment, I'm a bit lukewarm, but I suspect that I reflect the biggest sentiment against Obama. Obama is just very strong and right on a lot of issues. We Democrats have learned that we don't get 100%. We have to settle for someone who is sincere and has pretty good character. Disappointed as I am about FISA and a couple of other things, I will agree that Obama is sincere and has excellent character.

Since I am pretty typical in my feelings, I believe Denver should save its money. The Democratic Convention is going to be a love fest.

9. WTF, not telling people what weaponry cops have gives cops the upper hand?
Edited on Wed Jul-09-08 01:16 PM by intheflow
How about the Cold War deterrent argument, you'll be less likely to have a problem if people are are aware of how destructive your weapons are? Oh, I forgot, conservatives/paramilitary groups get to make up their own rules for each situation and the CM will ever call them on their hypocrisy. :grr:

10. I was working downtown in L.A. during the 2000 Democratic convention.
Everything was shut down. The city looked like it was occupied. I traveled in Hungary and Yugoslavia during the Communist era and never saw anything like this. It was ugly. One time I drove down a street toward the freeway (going to my home), and there was a long line of police cars. Of course, nothing happened.

And nothing will happen this time -- other than the usual burst of apathy and boredom. I expect a lot of yawning.

Democrats will not be demonstrating against Obama. We may not agree with him on everything, but we like him. There might be a few anti-abortion, excessively Christian types, but they are not likely to get any rowdier than their Democratic counterparts. This is just an excuse for the "security industry" to cash in. What a waste of taxpayer money. I hate to think how much money was wasted on security in L.A. in 2000.

Not much MSM coverage on the demise of our Constitution...or the police state at work.
United we stand, and get arrested.
I've never placed myself in a civil disobedience situation...never will.:scared:
I don't think it's crazy to think the elections could be suspended..
Iran is around the corner.
Just random thoughts.....

peace~

edit for wrong placement...should be at end of thread...
