3. How's the view from that ivory tower? |
|
I don't agree with Obama's FISA vote either, but I'd really be interested to hear how you think this is helpful.
You want purity? Find god.
Elections are very small wars where (hopefully) nobody dies. I value my (and your) 1st Amendment rights as much as anybody, but you're feeding the enemy.
Don't want to get in the trenches? Think you're above the fray because you post your political "truths" in the form of cutesy videos? Maybe you are...
...lemme know how that works for you if McCain is our next President.

For starters, making these cutesy cartoons is my job. I don't understand what you mean by "ivory tower" or "trenches". I'm not going to be voting for McCain. And if I thought his vote would actually help him get elected, I'd still be dissapointed, but I'd be able to stomach it more. I think Obama is making political mistakes that will make it harder for him to get elected.
And isn't the whole point of the DU so we can all put our "political truths" out there?

One would hope. Thanks for the cartoon. Some may find it painful. To a degree, I myself do. So be it. The truth often hurts.

painful as they may be, they are, generally, a necessarily amusing way to look at tragedies. And this IS a tragedy. It may be true that it's possible to persecute the telecoms for criminal crimes... but that won't really hurt them. I mean... WHO is going to serve in prison?
This is a case where criminal means nothing and being sued by millions of people for monetary damages for loss of privacy means everything.
Thank you again for what you do, distasteful as it was this time. /comfort

11. If, as you suggest, both sides are saying the same thing about Obama, that's not a good sign |
|
Not a good sign for November at all. Unfortunately, everything that's being said is based on things that have actually happened. If McCain is our next president, as you suggest he might be, there will have to be long and hard discussions about how we let this happen. We will sweep the senate and the house. It would be a shame if we lost the presidency, as you suggest we might, because, on the verge of victory, Obama threw it all away.

We should be in the frigging streets! Do NOT bring up McCain as a way to excuse this loss of freedom. That dog ain't gonna hunt.

|
Edited on Thu Jul-10-08 07:03 AM by ElsewheresDaughter
The Democratic-led Congress this afternoon voted to put an end to the NSA spying scandal, as the Senate approved a bill -- approved last week by the House -- to immunize lawbreaking telecoms, terminate all pending lawsuits against them, and vest whole new warrantless eavesdropping powers in the President. The vote in favor of the new FISA bill was 69-28. Barack Obama joined every Senate Republican (and every House Republican other than one) by voting in favor of it, while his now-vanquished primary rival, Sen. Hillary Clinton, voted against it. John McCain wasn't present for any of the votes, but shared Obama's support for the bill. The bill will now be sent to an extremely happy George Bush, who already announced that he enthusiastically supports it, and he will sign it into law very shortly.

Hardly any of them except Feingold, Kucinich and Biden even know the meaning of the word - spine. They are better than the others for the most part, but they still sicken me with their endless unnecessary posturing then caving when it counts. Why - the better to get the corporate donations, or are they just craven liars?

During the primaries Hillary was unceasingly pilloried as being too right wing, too willing to do anything to win and not the person who would bring "change" to WA. HA! Now that Obama has moved thoroughly to her right and beside McSame in this, well that's totally OK because he didn't really mean it and is just making nice with right wingers to win the GE, with a subtext of who cares about the constitution anyway as long as "our" guy wins? Come on now! This does not help him except with the corporate donations, this makes him look like he doesn't know the meaning of the word principal and will hurt him big time in the GE. Obama needs to decide who he is and present a consistent picture, not this I'm totally committed to stopping something one day then voting for it a month later. He's flip flopping and the media is going to tear him apart for this, and for once deservedly. Of course, they won't highlight McSame's flip flops - Dems ALWAYS are help to a higher standard.

53. And his policies on things like healthcare were moe cautious/conservative! |
|
Her major policies were more progressive - healthcare, foreclosure, etc. She won all the Big Blue States and the last week of May two national surveys showed her beating McCain by a wider margin than Obama did.
And now his supporters are defending his doing things Clinton would have been fried for.
What a mindfuck for her.
I like him and will vote for him, probably campaign, but it's just weird.
