of North Korea. I don't think we're still in Japan because we're afraid of their resurgence as a military threat. That said, our actions in Iraq and possibly Iran also DO have something to do with China, but not because of "encirclement"--it's to establish a strategic foothold in the region and secure the oil supply as much as possible for US-friendly corporations so that China, Russia, and/or India can't make deals with those countries that exclude us.

Eventually, people are going to stop buying US Treasury notes to support deficit spending when they've had their fill. When the Soviet economy collapsed, there was no money left to support positioning troops in other countries. What followed was the largest movement of troops and equipment seen since World War 2. Millions of soldiers and thousands of tanks and warplanes were transferred back to Russian soil.
In the end, I predict that is what will happen to US military presence worldwide.
