5. There are a lot of mental people out there: a short rant on AWOL
When President Bush (the one who actually earned the title by winning an election) said, "the American way of life is non-negotiable," my thoughts ran to a retort that said, "it is if we're going to war to secure the petroleum that runs that American way of life."

Assuming Cenk is reporting accurately the sentiments of Mr. F. Chase Hutto, environmental adviser to Vice Generalissimo Cheney, then Mr. Hutto is expressing the same madness using the same red-white-and-blue colored phrase for it, "the American way of life." That abbreviates to AWOL, another term associated with Bush the Frat Boy for unrelated reasons.

I guess we should call the notion that we Americans just have to drive big, gas guzzling cars and waste food and energy in every was possible and use plastic bags and styrofoam cups and buy over-packaged merchandise in order to be patriotic should be referred to as the AWOL mentality. That's because any one who believes that kind of fucking shit about the AWOL must have a mind that's gone AWOL.

Six words: Supreme Court of the United States. And no, I'm not talking about Roe v. Wade, although that is certainly a consideration. No, I am talking about the myriad of cases that will come before the court over the next 4-10 years that deal with the legalities of the bush*/cheney* administration, their policies, their actions. We already know we cannot depend on Congress to do their SWORN duty and provide oversight on the Executive Branch. Instead of holding these bastards accountable, they're holding the door and then driving the getaway vehicle. Congress have shown themselves to be the cowards and collaborators we hoped they would not be. The last hope of extracting any measure of justice will be in the judicial system, specifically the SCOTUS. The next President will probably have the opportunity to affect the court by appointment 1-3 judges. We cannot allow that President to be a Republican. We cannot allow further SCOTUS appointees in the vein of Scalia, Thomas or Roberts. A Republican President virtually guarantees the SCOTUS will veer to the far right.
