14 months in the making, 42 countries, and a cast of thousands. Thanks to everyone who danced with me.

Also, Cenk and Ben of TYT had an interesting discussion on their surprising reaction to part of this video, and how .

4. Thanks so much for that!
I'm glad it was reposted, as I hadn't seen the other thread.

I used to live across the street from the San Francisco park he (they) were dancing in.

Wonderful indeed.

I remember the first video well and am so glad to see Matt's still dancing around the world and making people smile.

Wonderful! :)

7. Adore these videos
If you go to Matt Harding's website (kindly provided by Better Believe It), you can see the evolution of this phenomenon. The early videos are rather amateurish, and the adult bystanders all seem to have a WTF? look on their faces. Is this guy nuts, or what? The kids get it though, joining in joyfully.

It's nice to see the evolution of the camera work, but even more to see the evolution in attitude. "Hey! This goofy looking guy is having a ball! Why don't we try it!"

8. Am I a crabby old guy if I find this sappy?
my 2-cents:
what i get from this video is that matt is rich enough to travel the world but he can't dance.
It just doesn't do anything for me. Sorry.

13. Actually, he quit his job as a computer programmer to make his first trip
which got noticed on youtube by the ad team for Stride gum. They offered to pay for another trip around the world if he was willing, and since he was still unemployed he jumped at the chance. A year later he got the idea of having groups of people dance like fools with him. Stride thought that was a great idea and paid for another trip (that was all the paid for in exchange for putting "thank you Stride" at the end of each video). Matt is probably in worse financial shape than most of us here. He hasn't held down a steady job since his days as a computer programmer. I wish I were brave enough-or foolish enough-just just say "oh fuck it, I'll worry about paying the bills when I get home" and then run off on the adventure of a lifetime!

14. so this is an for gum ! wow
worse than I thought.

It would make a better ad for Depends since he dances like he is incontinent (or about to be).

15. Er, so if you were someone who loved to travel and were dead broke
and the Stride company said "Hey KurtNYC, you wanna take another trip? It's on us; all you have to do is put "thank you Stride" at the end of your youtube video this time around" you would turn them down?

Hell, I'd wouldn't have to debate a nanosecond on that one. Right now I'd pretty much give away a kidney for 14 months of paid travel. I've been too broke to take a vacation for eight years!

16. There was an ad in the 1970s where hundred of people were singing
on a hillside. It played with the idea of unity and world peace also:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mOEU87SBTU

This guy made 2 ads for gum. Per the Washington Post article, that is what he does for a living.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/07/12/AR2008071200141.html

I don't find Matt's gum ads to be any more political or heartwarming than the coke ad.
