3. ihavenobias, this is one of the most important clips |
|
Edited on Tue Jul-29-08 01:38 PM by fascisthunter
Most people have no idea that this is true..... this needs to be pounded into the heads of every American to give them proper perspective on the issue of who owes what in taxes. Most do not realize how the wealthy cheat the system they reap millions/billions off of., all while claiming to pay more in taxes than the average American.

5. It is, I agree. Far too many DUers will probably think "Duh" and not even watch the clip |
|
But the fact is not only is this NOT obvious to the majority of low-info voters, but the general sentiment is not often backed up with specific numbers.
It's a LOT easier to convince someone of this if you can back it up with facts.

6. Who Cares What We Know....? |
|
Especially if the general public and average Americans don't know what we know. When they don't know, we all get screwed... the reason I think Cenk's clip is soooo good, is because of the way he communicates... he makes an issue much easier to digest.
I know most DUers know this, but most do not know how to explain it the way Cenk does. That's why I called attention to your post in GD. It's one thing to know about something important like this, it's another thing to share that information.
Thanks again...

13. A lot of the RW talking heads point out that the richest 1% pay out something like 50% of the taxes. |
|
Edited on Tue Jul-29-08 07:43 PM by bulloney
Well, they're also making about 50% of the income, too. They would only be paying their fair share if they're making that kind of money. But the talking heads spin it, making it sound like the richest 1% are paying a DISPROPORTIONATE share, like the entire financial support of this country is on their shoulders.
One of the biggest examples of how the richest people don't pay their fair share is in the FICA (Social Security) deduction. You only pay on something like the first $98,000 of your EARNED income. These guys make MILLIONS. Plus, much of their income is off investment earnings, from which NOTHING is deducted toward Social Security.
Yet, a lot of people are convinced that the richest are getting soaked and they spout off that trickle-down economics bullshit, really believing that any extra income earned by the elite will find its way down to the middle and lower class.
Right, and I'm on the short list for Pope.
The fact that nobody has cashed in on Buffett's offer is further proof that the elite in this country are not paying their fair share. That's all I expect. I don't expect the richest to pay something like 90% in taxes, as they did 50-60 years ago. Just pay the same rate as everyone else.

11. The conservatives that I live around.. |
|
are now just coming up to me a saying, "ahh man those rich er gettin' all the tax breaks" well no shit. Al Gore only said this would happen before George II was "'elected"' in the first place. I really pity them and there brainwashed way of thinking. The only reason they didn't vote for Gore is because he was "stiff". wad a country.

14. Where are these numbers coming from? |
|
When a RW loonie comes up with something that I don't believe the first thing out of my mouth is prove it. We moderates should be held to the same standard. Are there government statistics, reports, evidence that this is true? I fully believe it as I have thought for many years not only do the rich use more government services they also have the biggest tax write offs, like a second home. Heck, even an RV is classified as a second home because it has a bathroom, seriously.
