In their first interview together as running mates, Sen. Barack Obama and Sen. Joseph Biden discuss their roles and strategies for the upcoming presidential election. Steve Kroft reports.

2. He has got what it takes

...I imagined myself as a Repulican..I think unless you have a visceral hatred for the Democrats or Obama ...it is so hard not to like Obama for his really broad appeal.


Obama will win convincingly and will bring a broad swath of people behind his agenda. Basically- This guy is a GOP nightmare just as Clinton was.

His success in the first term depends on how he handles the challenges I think he will face:

1) The financial pain is going to continue- widespread bank failures are expected to occur in the 2009/2010 time frame .. People will be anxious and GOP will try to make political Hay

2) Afghanistan is NOT going to be easy ...Even if you transfer every single soldier from Iraq to Afghanistan ( This will be huge escalation ) .. this is not going to curb Taliban ..They are so well entrenched into the general population of Afhghanistan and shielded by the Pakistani ISI in the Northwestern Frontier Province that is going to very very very hard to do this by brute military force alone .. Obama is aware of this problem ( He made a reference on how to fight Al Qaeda) but we will have to see how he develops and executes his strategy.

3) Health Insurance companies are powerful blood sucking monsters with a 25% administrative overhead ... You think they will let some politician stop their gravy train ...United Healtcare paid its CEO 1.1 Billion dollars in pay and stock options .. Guess how much will they pony up for the fight of their lives ....

4) He needs a filibuster proof majority in the congress to get his Agenda passed .. that does not just mean enough Democratic asses in the seats - but enough people who share the vision and have the spine to stand up for Barrack even in face of Political Headwind.


But the bottomline for this election is the Obama 'Gets it' and John McCain does not...

What a couple of classy guys -- real statesmen, not the juvenile mudslingers they're competing against. I'm so please they didn't rise to the bait about Palin and skewer her. Obama and Biden know the Republicans are digging their own grave, and they don't need to help them. Let's hope their taking the high ground wins doesn't escape voters' attention.
