Following the opening segment, Bill lets the Republicans take their shot at their own version of New Rules this time since he had the Democrats do it last week.

1. well in the spirit of bipartisanship, I will say Miss Minnesota is
quite pretty.

But Republicans aren't really that funny. I'm sure some are, but not in general.

3. There was a laugh at Ron Reagan's one which was first

After that... uncomfortable silence with titters at Ron Paul, Bob Barr, and Ventura because they were self-deprecating or took some potshots at republicans.

On edit: Here's the democratic version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8IRbtddru0 A few more laughs.

I like Bayh's bit.

4. Humor simply does not work from the conservative point of view
Its a simple matter of humor being the realm of the underdog. When someone makes a pointed comment from the position of being oppressed it comes off as daring and insightful. When someone makes a pointed comment from the view of wealth and power it comes off as cruel and unsympathetic. Sorry Rethugs... you really should just stop trying to be funny. It just makes you look cruel.

6. No. Humor requires understanding of irony.
...which is a critical thinking skills lacking in most authoritarians-types. Also, satire works best against the absurd and most of the stands the left has taken over the past eight years have been grounded in truth and reality, not absurdity.
