Will Washington give us the fully staffed government we've been paying for? That is a brilliant frame: we pay for the benefits of government, why are we being ripped off? It points out that 1) government is something good which we have to pay for 2) why taxes are good - they enable a government which can do good things for us and 3) the GOP stance of government as an evil leaves us paying for something which no one is running for our benefit. A home run.

I don't know about your take. It almost seemed more like a slam against the senate, particularly Joe. Kind of like they're preventing our wonderful repubs from doing a good job for us. To me it was one of those subliminal messages against the dems -- reinforcing that thing they've been pushing about the "do nothing" congress.

I see what you mean. What a vague "message" this story...which obviously needs more time...has.(Seems chopped up in editing, did it not?)
Did the employees leave before Bush or during the Repug Congress? I mean the Dems have only been in charge a short time. Doesn't the GOP want to shrink government so they can "drown it in a bath tub"? How does this number of vacancies compare to other administrations? What kind of applicants are the GOP giving us to vet and hire? How many NEW government positions (like in Homeland Security) have the Bushies created and filled?
Needs a real long follow up.
P.S. Besides, who the hell wants to work for Condie Rice? I mean really! Who would want the Bush administration on their resume?
