as Stephanie Miller always says, "she should think of the children!"

I started studying up on wolves after a friend recommended reading the "Monks of New Skete's: How to Be Your Dog's Best Friend." Since they raise German Shepards, and they are my favorite breed. It said to understand your dog you need to understand wolves. So I started reading about them and got interested. I even adopted one of the Sawtooth Pack members, Amani, while I was still working.

And I still have wolf collectibles and art.

If I didn't all ready dislike Palin, this ad would have done it for me.

This is a great ad, and very sad. I'm afraid though that the hillbilly fuck-wads get a micro-boner over things like hunting. Yee Haaa! Huntin from a plane is cool!

11. You'd be surprised
At how many hillbilly fuck wads think this kind of hunting is for wusses and rich people. The hillbilly fuckwads that I know can't afford the airplane and wouldn't do this if they could. And all the hillbilly fuckwads I know that hunt eat their kills and use the skins, etc.

Unlike the slob hunters who shoot animals from airplanes like Palin or shoot farm-raised "game" released from cages, and still manage to shoot their hunting partners in the face.

150. Unlikely
Take this ad and display it for all your right-wing acquaintances to see. Watch their reaction to it.

Some might try to bluff with the sort of thing you think they'll respond with. But I guarantee that each and every one of them, seeing these wolves rolling being chased through deep snow by people in planes, rolling around in their own blood in pure blind panic, will respond with revulsion at such a thing.

31. more than any politician I have ever known of
It never ceases to amaze me the way the radical right keeps managing to come up with people who are orders of magnitude worse than the last. I hated Reagan more than any before him. Bush Sr. scared me more than any before him. My fear and hatred of Shrub and Cheney was well justified and surpassed that of anyone else. And now there's McSame and Failin, the Duchess of Pork. It seems that they pick the most vindictive, vicious, mean, hate-mongering, bullying, unethical, immoral, greedy psychopath they can find (granted, immoral and psychopath are almost redundant - amoral is a defining characteristic of psychopaths) to run for office.

I thought Bush/Cheney was the worst the RW would dare run for President/VP. And they sure outdid themselves.

Rethugs really, truly think the American people are stupid and will believe any lies they tell them, no matter how obvious of a lie it is. It sure seems like they are right about a lot of Americans. That's scary.

39. Good Job
Needs to get on TV and hammered by the MSM they had no problem hammering Michael Vick or others for cruelty. But some cannot be changed I was at the Vets yesterday with my cat and at the receptionist counter where about 8 women work I asked them what they thought about this and they all were familar with her and against but one women said and I just couldn't believe it, and it took alot of self control from me but she said I'm a republican and I love her. So I asked her if she had seen any of the videos of how these animals are tortured for sport and how they go in the dens and kill the babies for money for paws.
She looked me right in the eyes and said I seen it and do not have any problems with it I'm a republican. At this point I had to leave because I would have caused a serious scence but some people are just literally brain washed to vote for who ever is on the R ticket no matter what

42. Defenders of Wildlife is trying to raise money for a TV spot in Ohio
Edited on Fri Sep-12-08 12:30 PM by George Oilwellian
I just received this email from them:

We’re getting the word out to voters about Governor Sarah Palin’s barbaric record on killing America’s wildlife, especially her active promotion of the brutal aerial hunting of wolves and bears.

Since Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund released our hard-hitting video on her support for the wolf slaughter last week…

Nearly 450,000 potential voters have read our email!
More than 68,000 potential voters have viewed the video on YouTube, with many more spread the word by re-posting the video on their websites and blogs and forwarding it to friends.
CNN and other news outlets have picked up the story, running clips from Defenders of Wildlife Action fund and our sister organization Defenders of Wildlife.
To reach hundreds of thousands of swing voters who will help decide this election, we’ve created a powerful new television spot detailing Governor Palin’s efforts to kill wolves and bears. But we can only run it with your financial help today.

Click here to watch our new television ad on Governor Palin’s support for aerial hunting and help us run it on television stations starting in Ohio, one of the handful of swing states that will decide the election.

Warning: This television ad -- like the governor’s support for this brutal practice -- is disturbing.

Kathryn, running a television ad during an election year is expensive. We need to raise $100,000 by September 17th to run this ad and support our work to provide a voice for endangered wildlife.

We’ve had hundreds of calls and emails from our supporters urging us to get the word out on Governor Palin’s bounty proposal to reward wolf killers with a $150 check and her support for aerial hunting of wolves and bears. Please donate $40 or whatever you can afford today to help us raise the funds we need to get the word out.

We have plenty of work to do.

As governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin has proposed paying a $150 bounty for the foreleg of each dead wolf. The aerial hunting program she champions has already killed nearly 800 wolves. She’s opposed efforts to save America’s polar bears from extinction. She’s fought against efforts to save some of the world’s most endangered beluga whales.

At nearly every opportunity, Governor Palin has sided with Big Oil, mining companies, wealthy trophy hunters and other entrenched special interests in support of policies that would greatly harm the wild animals we treasure.

American voters deserve to know the truth about Governor Sarah Palin’s record that’s killing our wildlife. Please donate today to help us run our new ad in Ohio next week, a key swing state.

With the election less than 50 days away, we don’t have much time to help voters learn about the real Sarah Palin. Please donate $40 or whatever you can afford today to help us spread the word.

With Gratitude,

Direct link to donate.

Edited on Fri Sep-12-08 05:47 PM by blondie58
in fact, they clued me in to Sarah Palin long before McCain chose her as his vp. I don't like hunting, anyway, but I respect people who do it to feed their families. This kind of hunting is barbaric and horrific. I love wolves and I am always struck by the resemblance to dogs.

47. It's worse than you think...
I heard about this a week or two ago. The rationale for killing these wolves was to increase the caribou population so that hunters would have more quarry to shoot.

I have nothing against hunting for sport, if there is actually some sport involved. What's next? Shooting wolves from spy satellites?

Where is this ad playing? It will hit hard and get McSame on the defensive.

after the aged or the sick and cull the herd. There should be plenty for everyone. And you are right- this is NO sport. Welcome to DU, ErtBob!

caribou herd's numbers and vitality.

IT'S ALL PART OF GOD'S PERFECT PLAN, SARAH. What part of that do you not get??

Defenders has an animal adoption program which includes a cute stuffed toy, an adoption certificate, and a kids' activity book. Most of your donation goes toward preservation of the species, including ads like this one.

The stuffed toys and activity books make great holiday gifts, especially since they help educate the next generation. (I hope they will be better stewards of the planet than we have been.

I have been a hillbilly and a hunter since I was a little boy and this video has nothing to do with the skill it takes to be a hunter. It's the heartless, senseless, mass murder of animals by a gang of idiots. What danger to people's livestock can these assholes blame this on? How many cattle are in the place where this slaughter is taking place?

Thinning the herds of wildlife to cull out the sick and weak ones was the purpose of the wolf and other predatory animals. It was going on millions of years before man set foot on this planet.

How can a person who believes the Earth and the creatures upon it were "Created" by a supernatural being, for a reason, justify the senseless slaughter of these beautiful animals? These people want to waste everything on this planet, because they can.

No, the people doing this are not like any "Hunter" or "Hillbilly" that I have ever known or hunted with. These fools are more like Jeffrey Dahmer or Ed Gein.

I sadly watch the video, and feel just like many of you that have already commented on it. Also after reading the posts, I wondered where do these repugs come from? What makes them tick? How can they want to give tax cuts to the extremely wealthy and vote against health insurance for children. How can they create tax loopholes again for the very rich and want to cut social security for the elderly? How can they call themselves Christian and want to destroy Gods creations and take joy in doing so? Also like many of you I made a donation to Defenders, I know they are a very good organization. I think tonight I'm going to say a prayer to St. Francis of Assisi.

85. aerial assault on wolves disgusting
All my friends are hunters and more importantly sportsmen and sportswomen. Everyone here in northwest Montana hunts, and I have never met a hunter and sportsman who thinks shooting wildlife from an airplane or helicopter is sport. What absolutly boggles my mind is that Palin would instigate an aerial hunt in spring/early summer when the moms are having and nursing their pups.

The ad from defenders of wildlife is AWESOME.... Thank you Defenders of Wildlife for taking this to the public....

I have been sending out the link and info below to all my friends for several days. Everyone, republican and democrat alike. find her aerial assault on wolves disgusting.

==========================================================================================
I am one of the fortunate ones. I was not among the fourteen wolf puppies which were illegally shot and killed in their den as part of Gov. Palin’s aerial wolf kill this summer in Alaska. Someone please tell me what kind of woman launches a big aerial hunt at a time when our mothers are nursing their newborn? Is that something that a responsibly hunter, or a responsible mother would do?

101. Fantastic AD....extremely effective with dog lovers
I have a next-door neighbor....an elderly, retired lady who is an avid dog and cat lover. She volunteers at the local animal shelter, fosters rescued animals, contributes to just about every animal rescue group and shelter she can, and spends about eight hours a day on her computer, communicating with other animal lovers on every subject imagineable. She is also a traditional, old-style Republican; not a religious conservative, more of an Eisenhower/Nixon/Reagan type who always votes for the candidate with the "R" next to his/her name.

The one thing we have in common is our shared love for dogs. We don't talk politics, but we spend hours chatting about our animals. Well...I showed her this video on her computer a few minutes ago. I have never seen anyone so upset and worked up about a political issue. She's now sending this AD to every single animal organization and acquaintance she knows; she must have literally hundreds of contacts.

I think McCain-Palin just lost a lot of votes. This is the kind of "community organizing" Obama needs. Send this to every dog lover you know.

Alaska Ballot Measure Update
On August 26, 2008 Alaskans voted for a third time on the issue of aerial wolf hunting. More than 70,000 Alaskans voted to stop private aerial hunting of wolves and bears and to limit the practice to Alaska Department of Fish and Game personnel only.

Unfortunately a well funded opposition coupled with a strong turnout in conservative voters led to the defeat of the ballot measure.

Next Steps
Defenders and our allies are no less determined to make sure that Alaska manages its wildlife in a responsible manner and we will continue to work to end this brutal practice by passing the Protect America’s Wildlife Act.

Tell your Representative to cosponsor this act!

Wildlife Conservation Society
http://www.wcs.org/globalconservation/northamerica

The federal Endangered Species Act now lists the polar bear as Threatened. A WCS study that showed Alaska’s bears are vulnerable to climate change helped inform this decision.

Arctic Alaska contains one of the world’s last great wildlife spectacles. On its coastal plain, a region dotted by thousands of lakes and fertile wet tundra, millions of migratory birds come from all over the world to rear their young. The aggregations of breeding birds are most numerous in western arctic Alaska, particularly near Teshekpuk Lake.

But, I'm more upset for the future of this country as a whole and for the human beings here. I'd recommend people give to the food banks that are hurting so badly. It really does make me sick that we pretty much have to give lots of money to Obama to help him get elected when our money should go more to the food banks and human and animal rights agencies.

130. Only to a point
We got Bliss when she was 3 weeks old, bottle fed her and kept her near us for the first 3 months. She's accepted my husband & I as the Alphas and our children and pets as part of the pack as well. She'll come up to any of us and is very friendly, very submissive. To any stranger though who comes near their domain, they run in the opposite direction and pace nervously until they leave. Their fear of man must be instinctual at this point because they've been hunted and demonized for hundreds of years. There is also no way they would do well living indoors and you need a pretty big piece of land to have them. The other wolf Matsi was introduced to us by our vet. She was brought in by her previous owner to be euthanized because he had her living indoors and she ate his couch. She's still just a pup, the vet didn't want to put her down, and shortly before that we had her out to the house to put our black wolf down because while playing with Bliss, he herniated a disc. The vet knew we didn't want Bliss living alone and asked if we could try introducing Matsi into the pack. The rest is history...they're like long-lost sisters and very close.

Wolves are very much like humans...they have a mate for life, they're extremely loyal, and have rituals like most families do.

Thanks for your interest & hope I answered your question.

This is the truth, unvarnished. She had better hope that it doesn't get far.

If it does, adios Sarah; and I watched it with the sound off.

OK, just listened to it. Bounty for a "severed foreleg." People get that.

Go get counted as a view http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EQobIUE1zTU and rate it up. It was at 4.5 and my 5 stars actually moved it up ... a brush with destiny;)

All I can say it's about time the campaign went hardball. Too much at stake for a typically overcautious Democratic presidential campaign.

It seems that the Obama campaign is preparing behind the scenes for the legal fight over disenfranchised voters as well. We can give no quarter in this election if we love this country!

Better to learn our lessons eight years late than not at all.

Edited so I can mention my contribution of $25 to this organization today so that the ad can be broadcast and the preservation work can continue.

126. Great ad- gave them $25 this morning
When I saw this ad, I donated $25 and sent it to all of my outlook contacts, so far four of my friends have responded that they donated. I live in Northern Nevada and watch Coyotes frolicking in the ravine behind my house. I will never look at them again without thinking of Sarah Palin and her lack of respect for nature.

133. This is what happens when Obama lets the dogs out.
When he gave the green light to 507s and 501s.

I'm glad to see it. Palin's horribly cruel method of killing wild animals is not Sportsmanship. It is savagery.

134. Yes! I am so glad for this ad! I have been trying my best to get this out to everyone I know!
Here is the question I sent to Charlie Gibson - I don't know if he asked it or not but I still would love to her Sarah tell us why she condones this massacre:

God said "let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the wild animals and over all the creatures that move along the ground." (Gen. 1:26)

How can Gov. Palin condone aerial shooting of animals and say she is a Christian after reading this passage from Genesis?

Indeed!

137. She also targets Beluga Whales and Polar Bears
so the oil companies can drill drill drill and have their pipelines and rigs with out dangerous animals around. She wants both off the endangered species list.

Reagan put Farley Mowat on his watch list to keep him from coming into the U. S. from Canada because he opposed Reagan's anti-environmental stance and aerial hunting of wolves.

143. Hey all
I just wanted to let everyone that has donated to Defenders of Wildlife that they are rated one of the very best animal protection charities in the world. Almost all of the donations are used like they should be, for protection of animals and education.

Jbotts said "What is next, clubbing baby seals"? I just wanted to let you know that Palin's husband is a member of the commercial fishermen, who are the one's that advocate the clubbing of baby seals. I also boycott all Canadian goods because of it.

For those of you that have ever thought about visting Alaska, please don't. I am writing to the Alaskan Tourism Council and telling them that I will never visit their state until they cease these barbaric practices. Hope you all will join me in this. We all no that money talks. Let's do this together. Put the heat on Alaska.

Sarah Palin's Big, Sleazy Safari

By John Dolan, AlterNet. Posted September 2, 2008.

For most of us, zooming around in an airplane to shoot wolves sounds insane. For Sarah Palin, it's a "safari."

152. This ad is effective with Independent voters
see this site: <http://mediacurves.com/Politics/J7011-Anit-PalinAd-WildlifeRecord/>

I think this ad should run in the urban areas of Ohio, in the Ann-Arbor-Detroit region, the Palm Beach and Miami areas of Florida and in Suburban Virginia, for starters.
