Yesterday in a local report on KTRK-TV in Houston, TX, reporter Wayne Dolcefino revealed that media have been blocked from covering Hurricane Ike’s devastation. In a press conference, Dolcefino pressed Gov. Rick Perry on why media aren’t even allowed to fly over parts of Galveston Island, noting that media access was far better in Mississippi and Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina. Perry tried to brush off Dolcefino’s concerns, but eventually passed blame to federal officials.

The transcript of the conversation can be read at...

1. That reporter is awesome. Wayne Dolcefino. A true journalist.
BTW - Wayne did get the access he was demanding today, here's the link to another DU
string with cool "SkyEye" video of Wayne covering the devastation in the Bolivar area.

10. Definitely. I was impressed by his confronting Perry and demanding access ...
... saying that the media needs to be separate and apart from the government. (Would have been a good lesson for reporters allowing themselves to be embedded w/ the military in Iraq.)

2. Those bastards want to whitewash the devastation, no doubt.
Can't have any more photos of bodies floating in the streets on Bush's watch. I hope everyone with a cell phone camera will get the truth out, and post pics all over the Net.

9. David Gregory is a pathetic newsman or reporter, what ever he calls what he does.
He's good at throwing slams and slurs into his opening statements before asking the first question.

"Most politicians would never admit to beating their wives regardless of the suggestions or attitude of this candidate in general being non supportive of women's rights to equal pay and such, still it must be difficult to see their own home being lost to devastation by hurricane rather than divorce, were you able to see the damage to your wife's property from the air as your helicopter flew from Galvaston to here Gov, Parry?"

I know, I know...it's a poor example but this is 'like' what Gregory does as a commentator. He should have been humiliated when drunk on stage dancing rap background with Karl Rove and then interviewing him a few days later in a political context...but instead he thinks he was kool.

4. It's the same as the ban on covering returning fatalities from Iraq
They got killed by the coverage of Katrina, so they're just whitewashing it.
