8. I think you have hit the nail on the head.
The MSM polls are bullshit and the campaigns know it. Palin has caused a bump in enthusiasm by the Republican base, but that base is no more than 25-27% percent of the voting public - at best! There is no way independents will break for McCain, no way will the woman vote break for McCain, and he will never be able to do better than 50-50 with the white male vote. I have never thought that this race was anywhere near close and I still do not. Now, is all this "the race is heating-up" bullshit a veil for when the election is stolen? That could be...

26. The polls have to make the race seem close so when the republicans steal another election
Americans will not be as suspicious. Then when the
republicans refuse a recount and say it is just a bunch of BS
that the counts are wrong...

Does anyone really believe this military-industrial complex is
going to let a democrat be elected to the office of president
, after the dictatorial powers they have given to it....

Do you believe republicans wish to have a democrat as
president, that can give an order and there is nothing they
can do or say to stop it ,, as Bush and Cheney have / are
doing.

Just look at the way McCain , Bush , Cheney and the
republicans are arrogantly calling democrats traitors ,
helping the terrorist , anti patriotic , that they should be
exterminated and should be kicked out of this country.
McSame is arrogantly telling lies over and over about what
Obama say and attacks him and his family on a very personal
basis.
Yet, the news media goes wild 24/7 when McCain tells his
campaign lies about what Obama has said,, and it is as plain
as the nose on your face that Obama never made that
statement......

If not for lies and deceit , McSame and Palin would be
silenced and have nothing to say..

Oh geez. What was that? Yeah, John McCain was a snarky puke, but what's new? But Mika's response was pathetic. Next time she wants to complain about her treatment as 'a journalist,' she should ask Amy Goodman.

9. An Insider's Look at John McCain
I received this e-mail today and was told in the e-mail to pass it on. I couldn't think of a better place to pass it on than DU. I can't confirm or deny anything in this e-mail and there is no link. I thought it was interesting.

Subject: Fwd: My Holiday with John McCain: a first-hand account

(Note from Kate: This shocking account was written by Ana Dubey, a
friend of my cousin and her husband, who have known Ana for many
years. Ana has a PhD in psychology and has a private practice in San
Francisco. My cousin's husband went to business school with Ana's
husband, who has since started and sold a number of successful
companies. Ana's husband is currently a Managing Director of a private
equity firm in the Bay Area. Ana and her husband are not political
activists and don't have any personal ax to grind. In fact, in writing
this account of her experience with John McCain, Ana is acting outside
of her own economic self-interest as she and her husband are among the
top 3-5% of our population who would benefit from the McCain
tax/economic policies. Please pass this on to anyone you know who
might vote for John McCain. Also please post it on blogs and send it
to newspapers and radio stations).

Dear Friends,
I have written about my encounter with McCain and his family in 1999
-- please feel free to share my story with whomever you think might be
considering voting for him.
Ana
MY HOLIDAY WITH JOHN McCAIN

It was just before John McCain's last run at the presidential
nomination in 2000 that my husband and I vacationed in Turtle Island
in Fiji with John McCain, Cindy, and their children, including Bridget
(their adopted Bangladeshi child).

It was not our intention, but it was our misfortune to be in close
quarters with John McCain for almost a week since Turtle Island has a
small number of bungalows and their focus on communal meals force all
vacationers who are there at the same time to get to know each other
intimately.

He arrived at our first group meal and started reading quotes from a
pile of William Faulkner books with a forest of Post-Its sticking out
of them. As an English Literature major myself, my first thought was
"if he likes this so much, why hasn't he memorized any of this yet?"
I soon realized that McCain actually thought we had come on vacation
to be a volunteer audience for his "readings" which then became a
regular part of each meal. Out of politeness, none of the vacationers
initially protested at this intrusion into their blissful holiday, but
people's buttons definitely got pushed as the readings continued day
after day.

Unfortunately this was not his only contribution to our mealtime
entertainment. He waxed on during one meal about how Indo-Chine women
had the best figures and that our American corn-fed women just
couldn't meet up to this standard. He also made it a point that all
of us should stop Cindy from having dessert as her weight was too high
and made a few comments to Amy, the 25 year old wife of the
honeymooning couple from Nebraska that she should eat less as she
needed to lose weight.

McCain's appreciation of the beauty of Asian women was so great that
David the American economist had to move his Thai wife to the other
side of the table from McCain as McCain kept aggressively flirting
with and touching her.

Needless to say I was irritated at his large ego, and his rude
behavior towards his wife and other women, but decided he must have
some redeeming qualities as he had adopted a handicapped child from
Bangladesh. I asked him about this one day and his response was
shocking –"Oh, that was Cindy's idea – I didn't have anything to do
with it. She just went and adopted this thing without even asking me.
You can't imagine how people stare when I wheel this ugly, black
thing around in a shopping cart in Arizona. No, it wasn't my idea at
all."

I actively avoided McCain after that, but unfortunately one day he
engaged me in a political discussion which soon got us on the topic of
the active US bombing of Iraq at that time. I was shocked when he
said "if I was in charge, I would nuke Iraq to teach them a lesson".
Given McCain's personal experience with the horrors of war I had
expected a more balanced point of view. I commented on the tragic
consequences of the nuclear attacks on Japan during WWII – but no, he
was not to be dissuaded. He went on to say that if it was up to him
he would have dropped many more nuclear bombs on Japan. I rapidly
extricated myself from this conversation as I could tell that his
experience being tortured as a POW didn't seem to have mellowed out
his perspective but rather had made him more aggressive, and vengeful
towards the world.

My final encounter with McCain was on the morning that he was leaving
Turtle Island. Amy and I were happily eating pancakes when McCain
arrived and told Amy that she shouldn't be having pancakes because she
needed to lose weight. Amy burst into tears at this abusive comment.
I felt fiercely protective of Amy and immediately turned to McCain and
told him to leave her alone. He became very angry and abusive towards
me, and said "don't you know who I am" and I looked him in the face
and said "yes, you are the biggest asshole I have ever met" and headed
back to my cabin. I am happy to say that later that day when I
arrived at lunch I was given a standing ovation by all the guests for
having stood up to McCain's bullying.

Although I have shared my McCain story informally with friends, this
is the first time I am making this public. I almost did so in 2000,
when McCain first announced his bid for the Republican nomination but
it soon became apparent that George Bush was the shoo-in candidate and
so I did not act then. However, now that there is a very real
possibility that McCain could be elected as our next president, I feel
it is my duty as an American citizen to share this story. I can't
imagine a more scary outcome for America than that this abusive,
aggressive man should lead our nation. I have observed him in
intimate surroundings as he really is, not how the media portrays him
to be. If his attitudes toward women, and his treatment of his own
family are even a small indicator of his real personality, then I
shudder to think what will happen to America were he to be elected as
our President.

32. Verification of McCain at Turtle Bay Story
I jumped through all the hoops to register so I could verify the story about McCain at Turtle Bay.
My friend, Lucy, sent it to me with the following lead paragraph:

"I don’t forward political ‘stories’ usually, but I have first hand knowledge of this one. It is written by an Indian woman named Ana, who lives in San Francisco. She has been a good friend of my niece since childhood. Ana’s dad is an Indian diplomat, once ambassador to Peru, (Brinda is Ana’s mom, -a good friend of my sister who is married to an Indian and lives in Delhi). So Ana is world traveled and very well educated. I was visiting my niece (a Dr. at Santa Clara Valley Hospital) one time a couple of years ago, and Ana and her husband came to visit, and I heard this story directly from her at that time. I had thought of it many times recently, wishing I could remember the details better. Then here, lo and behold, my brother-in-law has sent it to me in writing! So it is absolutely legitimate and real. The story speaks for itself.

Lucy "

You'll have to figure out the relationships, but if she says she'd heard the story from the lips of the teller, you can be sure it's true. Lucy wouldn't lie. (and neither would I !) The identical text that appears in this forum was attached.

I hope this helps. I really, really think McCain would be a disaster, not to mention Sarah.

19. I don't like John McCain but this story seems a little far fetched.
Someone who is about to run for president would normally be aware of everything he was saying. I just can' imagine he would be telling anyone that they were fat and needed to lose weight when he barely knew that person. I'm sure he has the potential for all of that because thats just the way repugs are. I wouldn't pass this story on. This may be a "plant" so we can talk about one more thing besides the issues!

33. Verification of McCain at Turtle Island Story
I jumped through all the registration hoops so I could verify the truth of the piece about McCain at Turtle Island. Here is the lead note my friend, Lucy, sent me along with the "story":

"I don’t forward political ‘stories’ usually, but I have first hand knowledge of this one. It is written by an Indian woman named Ana, who lives in San Francisco. I've known Lucy for 9 years. She's a very honest person. If she says she heard the story a while ago from the lips of Ana, then it's true. I have met her sister (married to an Indian).

I hope this helps. McCain and Palin would be a disaster.

34. McCain at Turtle Island
I also received this version as a MSWORD attachment. I checked the properties of the document itself and found the author's name: ravi bhaskaran

Searching online, I discovered a reference to Anasuay Dubey as a graduate of "Armand Hammer United World College of the American West" Class of 1988. The college newsletter of July 2005 indicates that her husband is Ravi Bhaskaran. Here's the quote: "Anasuay Dubey and her husband Ravi Bhaskaran are
celebrating their 9th anniversary this year. They and their 2 fluffy cats sill live in San Francisco. She is in her final 2 years of a doctoral program in Clinical Psychology."

Further research indicates that Mr. Sushil Dubey was the Ambassador of India to Peru from April 1983 - July 1986. However, I was not able to check if he was Anasuay's father.

I'm usually a strong skeptic of emails such as this, but my research corroborates all of the supporting detail. Of course, one can never be absolutely sure until the info is verified directly with the source. But unless someone from Snopes.com proves otherwise, I'm giving this McCain story two thumbs up!

From what I've heard about the way McCain has treated women - and that he crudely insulted his wife in public - this story would easily fit into his pattern.

39. More Confirmation
My name is Ian MacColl and I am a friend of Ana's. Her husband is Ravi Bhaskaran so that is why it was listed in the Word document. Her father, whom I know, was in the Indian diplomatic corps and lives in Dehli. I also know her mother Brinda. Sushil was, I believe, council general in San Francisco. She has been telling this story for many years, even before he chose to run again for this year's election. I hope this helps.

35. more: McCain at Turtle Island
I located a New York Times article that verifies that McCain took the Fiji vacation in 1999 as referenced in the email story.

The Jan 3, 1999 article says, "Back home in Phoenix after a Fiji vacation, the usually unequivocal Republican equivocated about what should happen to Mr. Clinton."

37. more McCain at Turtle Island, Fiji
McCain's admiration for William Faulkner proven in this 1992, Houston convention speech quote:
There is a quote by the great writer, William Faulkner, which I have always admired. "I decline to accept the end of man," he wrote. "I believe that man will not merely endure, he will prevail. He is immortal, not because he alone among creatures has an inexhaustible voice, but because he has a soul of spirit capable of compassion and sacrifice and endurance."

Today, on every continent, Faulkner's hopeful creed has been affirmed. Nearly half a billion people have emerged from communism and authoritarianism into a new age of enlightenment. No nation has contributed more to the global success of liberty than America. And no President has served this noble cause with greater courage and wisdom than President George Bush.

that people need to pressure Obama to participate in Town Hall meetings with him. His logic is that he had to go nasty and negative because Obama wouldn't play by his rules. He really is a pompous old fool, and a nasty jerk.

24. was he admitting he took a cheap shot?
I'll have to watch it again. I thought he was accusing her of taking a cheap shot after she mentioned her brother worked for him. lol. Either way, he does seem to be losing his 'cool'. Anyone who has to give a speech or talk to people like he is reading a children's book to a bunch of 3 year olds really has to be keeping something pent up inside behind those clenched teeth. He never seems like he is being himself. I mean really. His whole body is ridged with suppressed something. Obama is always very comfortable. He is relaxed because his conscience is clear and he believes in his message. McCain cant even figure out what his own message is suppose to be! He's totally sold out and he knows it. And those 18 million cracks that Palin seems to keep toting around as if she did anything to contribute to them (har, har, har) are actually turning into 18 million cracks in McCain's facade of sing songy wierdass voiced 'my fellow boys and girl' BS - As Palin outshines him, his true nature is starting to poke through. As you said a pompous old fool and a nasty jerk.

the truth is even his own people dont give a shit about him.

what I would like to see someday is a movie that puts his POW experience in juxtapose with his first wife's traumatic experience of recovering from her car accident that shattered her pelvis and both her legs. Place them next to each other scene for scene. HIs trauma and hers, the similarities and differences. The torture from vietcong and the torture of recovering from operations. And then show how he walked out on her to take a 25 year old wife. everyone talks about his POW experience. well his wife was having her own experience too. It could have brought them closer but he instead decide to act, as his wife said, as if he did not want to be 40. When he came home, he had a limp and she was 4 inches shorter and in a wheelchair. He started cheating on her from the getgo until his divorce in 1980. In fact he was still married to Carol when he first applied for his marriage license. He remarried 5 weeks after his divorce. I think that whole marriage speaks volumes on who and what he is.

11. And what do you think about that support for McC now, Mika?
I doubt that she's going to be able to think of him the same as before, try as she might.

He's not a nice person. Neither is Palin.

Some of us could tell that, and in this dangerous world, it might behoove people like her to take a break from writing us off out of knee-jerk prejudice once in a while, just because we can see what she can't see, and consider that might actually mean there could be something to worry about from them.

Some in the media are just catching onto the fact that we Dems haven't been this wound up because we're intimidated by them as candidates, but because we can smell the nasty, and are outraged about allowing them to waltz in and seize the greatest power on earth.

This is serious sh*t, not some high school game. This isn't the time to "send a message" of some kind, or rebel against the duty to choose responsibly or to act out disdain of us "elites" who know better than to shirk the issue.

Mika is conservative enough that I can't stand to watch her. That McCain would p*ss her off says he doesn't know, or doesn't care, what's in his own best interest.

Time to break out the Depends.

Does anyone else have flashbacks to an elderly relative, telling his war stories for the umpty-dozenth time? You can't shut them up, and you can't redirect them. All you can do is politely ignore them, until they fall asleep at the table. Since McOld is running for President, we don't have to do the same.

is somehow irrelevant if it comes from an Obama supporter: as in, half the country. Kind of tells you something about how McCain is likely to lead. Whether little Miss Newsmodel is or isn't an Obama supporter doesn't matter to me in the least. If she isn't then McCain's dismissal of her is actually kind of funny.
