1. I saw that on tv earlier.
Painful to watch. He's even more of an embarrassment than Bush.

4. Hard to believe that's possible and yet...
and even scarier because he's a total hothead who loves revenge, threats and bullying and is jonesing for a war to "lead".

and I couldn't help but notice that no one thought it was funny there....which it wasn't. I don't know how anyone could sit there and listen to him...

I think I'm going to call some attention to this video, in the event people missed it.

8. So, Johnny, are you saying that the oil rig and fish can co-exist peacefully?
Senator Obama is all wrong about you, Mr. McCain. You're not just like Bush, at all. In fact, you're so delusional you make Bush look like a veritable pillar of logic and sanity.

11. Fish are attracted to any type of open water cover in the Gulf, including
oil rigs. But, that doesn't negate the environmental impact of offshore drilling.

eta - has anyone sent his dumb ass those post-Katrina oil spill photos yet?

Mississip spills?

Fish and other living marine critters simply LOVE our oil rigs - Love 'em to death.

14. Just because fish are present does not mean a thing. What counts
is can they be eaten? Usually fish in polluted waters are not safe to eat.

16. Actually fish do congregate around submerged structures like oil rigs
Fish are attracted to submerged structures like artificial and natural reefs, scuttled vessels, sunken wrecks, bridges, piers, and the submerged structures supporting oil drilling platforms. Schools of smaller bait fish congregate around these submerged structures, seeking shelter from larger predator fish and ocean currents, and also to feed on the marine life attached to the submerged structures. This artificially created eco-system, in turn, attracts larger predator sport fish.

Fishermen know this and take advantage of the situation. These natural and man-made submerged structures are favorite spots for sportfishing, not for commercial fishing. Trouble is that a lot of these oil drilling platforms now won't allow fishermen to get close enough to cast to the fish. They're probably paranoid about terrorism and such things in recent years.

McCain, as usual, screwed up the line and said "fish love oil rigs".....but, he's right.

28. in the longer clip I saw on TV he does say something like "that means more food"
so I think he was trying to justify the oil rigs with more fish for us to eat.

I don't think anyone wants to eat that fish at the end of this clip though. And I, for one, wouldn't want to eat one that had been living in even the normal runoff. They used to have working rigs off the coast in Santa Barbara (I'm pretty sure they're shut off now). And there were globs of oil floating around near the shore, where people swam. And I had to clean off my feet when I left as there would be many pieces of tar on them. It was sad.

17. Yeah, and sea gulls are all around garbage scows...
...so what if they're waiting for the next toilet to flush. At the same time, and for the reasons included here, fish and other sea-creatures are attracted to submerged structures. What these guys - fish, et. al., don't know is that if something goes wrong they'll be gill-deep in sludge and it'll all be over.

19. To be fair, maybe they like the oil rigs
when they aren't exploding oil into the water because for them it builds little coral-like sanctuaries. So many he's not wrong, but just a short-sighted son of a bitch

20. Well, he's halfway right
The fish love the pilings that support an oil rig. They provide sort of a vertical reef habitat, an anchor for algae, crustaceans and mollusks, plus result in a patch of calmer water where plankton are somewhat denser. As a result, fish are all over. On the Alabama coast, the oil rigs are where you go to catch grouper or red snapper. Of course, the fish would love these things with or without an oil derrick sitting on top of them, and would likely be better-off without.

Of course, we already knew artificial reefs attract water life.
